    Road rage!

Just another Wednesday morning in Auckland I suppose.

On way way to work today I pull up to these lights and there's a bunch of traffic stopped there so I filter through the stopped cars and plant myself in front of the car at the front as I usually do. Seems business as usual, no screaming, yelling or general objections from the cars around that I noticed as I do this.

When we pull away from the lights though things take a sour turn, in a couple of hundred meters the car that was behind me at the lights catches up to me then starts tail gating me weaving side to side and when I slow down for next lights the car pulls ahead to my left and starts screaming incomprehensibly. (I'm on the left most lane btw...) It would have been nice if the light was red at the next one so I could have filtered through the traffic and left this nonsense behind but unfortunately cars start moving and I slow down behind them. This guy is in this big 4x4 and he's still to the left of me driving erratically while screaming at me.

At this point I decided that I'll take chances filtering through moving traffic rather than waiting to see if this guy is actually going to run me over with his 4x4 and put as much traffic as possible between the crazy guy and me. (Luckily I never saw him again after that)

Now I've encountered some fucked up people on the road while I was in a car relatively protected by a metal cage around me but I've never had to deal with this on the bike before in the years that I've been riding around. Is it by pure luck that I've never encountered this before? What would you have done to get out of this situation?

Unfortunately I was too concerned with not getting killed I didn't think to grab his number plate or anything. Also annoying that it was on road I live off and at my normal commuting time that it makes a repeat encounter likely...

I have experienced a car deliberately swerving into my path, head on, while filtering in heavy traffic

I think we have some less than courteous bikers out there to thank for this sort of thing. Scarey shit though.

Get a Gopro on your helmet, so you got the plate number next time.

Nothing new about that. My strongest memory of road rage against me was in the mid '80s. Its the one and only time I've done 120kph in a 50 zone. I was being chased after I honked at a guy for nearly taking me out when they came out of a side street. Thankfully the road was fairly clear (although we did pass a milk truck doing deliveries pretty close). Lot him in traffic at the next lights.

So it sounds like yes it was pure luck that I haven't met a crazy person trying to run me off the road on my bike before. lol

Damn really want one of the go pros, torpedo7 is selling the black edition for 550 at the moment but my wife says no

Yep trying to get away from this guy was the fastest I'd ridden in a 50k zone also. I just hope I don't see him again. I had a guy earlier this year (in the different car I think a holden commodore that time) who passed me doing probably around 80-90 km/hr (I was doing 55km/hr and this guy was going A LOT faster) around a blind corner on the wrong side of the road after I passed him in my car at the previous lights on the same street. I wonder if it's the same guy. We couldn't possible have that many crazies in this suburb.

last week had an Island guy in a van pass me very closely at excessive speed after the lights changed

usually a 30-50yr old male in a large vehicle

did have one young baldy in his wifes mirage with a bichon friese next to him

at least once a year for me they just wish they could beat the lights and ques like 2 wheelers do

If his window was down, I'd have spat in his face. I did that once before when I had a VERY close call with a dude in a car that didn't give way and almost took me out. Fuck em!

Not really an option in a full-face helmet.

It's a common thing in Wellington traffic.Plenty of tossers who don't like the fact that a bike is going to beat them.

I managed it pretty easily. Just pull down the chin guard a bit. Helped that at the time the helmet was perhaps 1 size too big and visor up helps

I agree, it would be good to start providing footage to the popo of these idiots.

Have a look at this link for low cost cameras, I have the $139 HD sports camera which provides pretty good footage.

Be careful what you wish for. We've all done stuff that is perfectly legit that may not be strictly kosha. Or at least can be taken completely out of context in the narrow field of view of a camera.

I hate the thought of a camera on every vehicle. Rather some dickheads get away than our own actions get to closely scrutinised.
