The track is the lines. Seen it on v8 supercars where they're allowed 2 wheels out and still classed as in the track, at speedway we need to have at least 1 wheel in the track.

I can only presume they run similar rules (they seem pretty universal).

I think it's a bit more technical for V8s. It's not just two wheels, a reasonable amount of the car must still be on the track, and they were trialling sensors that alerted if the car was too far off track. That said, they've learnt they usually fuck the car if they cut the corner too much...

Yip two stage kerbing is the best to stop excessive corner cutting. Viewers get to see action, no need for techno mumbo-jumbo and it's the drivers choice how much they want to attack the corner. Personally I'd love to see a bike getting airborne during a race That's right bitches...I'm coming through on the inside!

As someone said, out Rossi'd Rossi. Looks like he had every intention of using that "line". I suppose it comes down to where the track starts and finishes. I always thought the white lines are the track boundary apart from painted curbing. I assume it's very much an unknown because of the grate. Bloody big go nads to do it though.
well you better revisit Rossis pass on Stoner in 2008

Thats exactly why I agree with the "out rossi'd rossi" comment. Both Marquez and Rossi think it's fine to pass there because it's so dicey and it makes it better viewing. I suppose Marquez puts it into perspective the best:
"You cannot do it every lap, but one time in one race why not? We need to be a bit free because in the end people want to see a show. I thought I was on the correct line, then I saw I was outside the track. It's a difficult place!”

Totally agree. To tell you the truth the motor racing I've watched this year has been bloody great, bikes and cars. Close racing, heaps of passing, crazy shit. This is the first year I've paid proper attention to MotoGP (preferred WSBK) mostly thanks to Sommet, and it's better than it has been in previous years. Moto2 has had to blinder races.
