    Riding blind

Just about home today when my eyes started to sting like hell. I had to pull up with both eye shut. The salt? from the tear fluid ( or something ) was stinging so much I couldn't keep my eyes open. It happens occasionally with wind hitting the eyes but today was bad.

I ride with riding glasses and the visor down, but there is usually a draught coming into the helmet to some degree.

Anyone else find wind in the eyes a problem?

Yes. So I close my visor.

Grab a bottle of clear eyes, and pop a couple of drops in before going out, or take it with you. Seems to help me. I use it while dirt riding too.

Look at getting one of those chin curtains (or something like that) they clip onto the underside of your helmet and fit snuggly against your chin so no draught can come through.

Yeah .. we all get that now and then ....

Do you smoke? Did you wipe your eyes with your hands? I found that nicotine on my fingers could make my eyes sting ... I probably wiped them with bare hands, leaving traces of nicotine around my eyes .. when I wiped them because of the tears caused by wind the nicotine wiped across too and made my eyes sting.

I've now stopped smoking - so that is not an issue - but occassonnally I do get the stinging pain .. possibly just colder than usual .. I have no idea.

I ride in shades - so they are not sealed around my eyes ..

Sounds like it may be time for a new helmet, is padding loose allowing more air to circulate?

    Visor not sealing?

    Time to go shopping

The problem does not occur with my regular helmet. No I dont smoke, eat curry and I ride with the visor down or slightly open and always wear sunnies or clear safety glasses. The helmet I was wearing that day does not have a chin curtain and does tend to let more air inside. It was probably due to a constant draught around the eyes that may have a drying effect on the eye surfaces over several hours riding

As said, it doesn't happen all the time, and rarely, if at all with my regular helmet.

Thats why I use the cleareyes, stops your eyes drying out, and washes the film off them, even if you are a non smoker you will be getting a slight film over you eyes from the Environment.
