    HID conversion

Hi am looking for some feedback on HID conversion kits for a single headlight with a H4 type bulb.

    These kits from US

    http://www.ddmtuning.com/Product-Cat...hting/HID-Kits

get good reports but would like to hear from anyone that has bought similar in NZ

H4 is the standard halogen right?

If so those conversions are illegal due to the associated beam pattern changes from having an arclamp instead of a filament bulb.

Try one of these instead http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=927 or basically any other one which has a lens, can get em out of 300zx and bmw etc... length is the main issue though, very hard to fit in the traditional round light bucket.

Almost impossible to get something legal.

So may as well get something low-key (won't dazzle oncoming roadusers)... retrofitsource looks like the best bet for that. They do units for those that drive on the left too.

Legalities aside i'm going to do a HID conversion one of these days on my Buell.

A DDM kit will be the most likely one, as everything i've read about them is positive.

Not sure on weather it'll be 35w or 55w.....

Just be sure to check how your specific bucket responds to them (bear in mind it's likely the wof guys will too). I haven't seen a halfassed go at it as per the DDM kits, but the aformentioned TRS ones are just fucking brilliant.

Plenty of info out there on Uly conversions using the DDM kits so no worries there.
it may or may not help to be friends with a WOF inspector..

I have the 55w DDM kit on my VFR. OMFG they are good! Hit and miss regarding compliance at VTNZ. It failed last time, so I had to spend a few hours refitting the standard bulbs, get WOF and then reinstall the HID kit.

Sounds a good plan. Any chance of posting up some pic's of your install especially of how you fitted the bulbs.
The only HID Kits I have seen are from J-Car and the I would have a major problem fitting their bulbs into my headlight cavity on the Hornet.

I ripped out the set on my Tiger for legality reasons, don't ride at night these days. Issue can be that they light up the road close so it appears you can see more than you can. Probably awesome for a rally car.

No photos, but seriously they are so easy to fit. My mate has a set of HID from Jaws in the UK on his blackbird and they were more of a challenge. The bulbs themselves are not big and the ballasts (which are the usual problem) are about the size of a fag packet and less that half the thickness.

Someone was selling a spare HID kit on here, have a search. I purchased the 55W 5000 set, they appear about right in terms of colour temperature.
