Angry Have I killed it already - RS125

Recently acquired an RS125 1997, have been going for drives over this weekend. Today went out for a drive, stalled a few times (getting used to gears) but once I got going I was okay.

Then coming down a hill (in gear) the bike wouldn't accelerate anymore, while the bike was still in gear we slowly came to a stop. Tried to use the electric starter, no go - just wouldn't catch & ignite/fire. Tried to bump start it in first down a hill, felt like it should have caught a few times, but just didn't.. Came to a stop again..

Pushed it all the way home and now I notice I can get the bike easily into first, but then struggles/won’t get into 2nd, usually slips back to Neutral. (Researched around and some commenters mention a clutch pin?)

A few nice people came over and gave me a few things to look over.
    1. Fuel like blockages i.e. no fuel getting to cylinder.
    2. Flooded carb
    3. Fuel getting to spark plug/spark plug has spark

Sorry for the novel, any idea what I have fucked kb?

TLDR: Bike won't start(bump start won't work same with electric start), hard to get from first to any other gear

Did you run out of fuel?

It won't change gear unless it is moving.

Unfortunately nope, got tonnes of fuel in the tank.

Also thought about possibly flooding the bike, was going to empty out the carbs but couldn't get at them & didn't exactly know how to drain them with this new carb

Reaaaally? I though as long as you used the clutch you could cycle through all the gears

One doesn't take a motorcycle for drives. One takes a motorcycle for a ride, a hoon, a fang, a blat, a run, a blast or a pootle. This list is not exhaustive, however the phrase drive is quite unacceptable.

As for the RS, I'll give ya $5 and a bag of chips. She's fucked.

some kawasakis are like this designed so while stationary you can't accidentally change up into second, pain in the arse if you want to crashstart a bike, anytime i've been in a motor with this i've removed it

I'm very sorry sir, I'll make sure to use one of your terms instead of drive

Cheers for the optimism, make it two and a new RS125 then we've got a deal.

Fuel tap was turned on? tried it on reserve?

Were you just cruising around in the lower revs? You could have fowled up the plug, two stokes especially ones like a rs need to be given shit to run well.

Pull the plug out and check it not covered in carbon or too much oil and while its out check its spark by turning the engine over and looking for a strong blue spark.

I'm going to go triple check the fuel now, hopefully it's that simple & im just... forgetful?

I lightly hit the power band (farest I went was 9k), going to try and take that out now, I wonder if I have the correct size spanner for it.

I was only riding for 10-15mins gaaaah

    Remove spark plug.
throw spark plug in rubbish bin
    put new spark plug in.
    go riding.

Id bet its simply a fouled plug. should always be the place to start with 2 stroke running issues in my experience

Right! Lets just hope it's that.. Gonna go grab some new tools to make this easier.
If the sparkplug is fouled then is it is simple as hitting the powerband more frequently or is it possibly an incorrect fuel mixture?

Fuck I'm happy I have a Haynes manual, i'd be ripping my hair out by now if it were for it

Buy two plugs for it. wrap one in a plastic zip lock bag, wrap that in a rag, and stash it securely under the seat. Fuck pushing a bike for want of something as simple as a plug.

Plugs the first place I would try were I you, then see if there's fuel in the carb. Anything more complex is beyond the written word.

And once you get it running, flog the shit out of it for making you push it. Really wring its neck. As long as you stay within the law of course.

Alright things learnt from lifting up the tank/checking spark plug:

    1. Fuel taps need to be turned completely around to stop the fuel from gushing out.
    2. Fuel lines need to be long enough for the tank to be lifted up.. (This fuel line eventually got cut, I couldn't wiggle/rip it off the carb or the tank - it was about 9cm long -.-)

Got the spark plug out, tiny bit of oil and carbon on it, expect that's normal.
Plugs got heaps of spark, unforuntately.
Checked the cylinder as well, still compressing/moving the piston around.

Now I find it hard to put the bike into first from Neutral..

    Any ideas?

Pull the filler cap off the gearbox oil, and sniff it.

If it smells of petrol...ummm...you might have fucked it.
