    Psychoactive Substances Bill

I was hugely disappointed that this Bill was passed into law yesterday without Mojo Mathers' amendment included. It is abhorrent that animals should be forced to suffer from the testing of recreational drugs.

'Kin oath. Isn't that why we have street kids?

They could earn their dole each week for being labrats.

We have Peter Dunne, Brendan Horan and all the National party MPs to thank for vetoing the amendment.

They should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

That's very sad. Animals to presumably suffer so humans can get high?
Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.

The saddest thing about it is that it is totally unnecessary.

There are test methods available that don't require any animal participation - they cost more to carry out though.

However, the cost shouldn't have even been an issue as the cost is not something that is being picked up by the New Zealand tax-payer but by the manufacturers of these drugs.

The government has simply let the manufacturers off the hook by allowing them to make use of cheaper testing options.

Part of the testing process is likely to involve what is known as LD50 testing whereby the animals are given such high doses of these drugs that 50% of them will die as a result.

The reality is though that the 50% that don't die as a direct result of administering these drugs will most likely have to be euthanised due to the psychological damage that they will incur.

I fail to see how testing psychoactive substances on animals is any use at all ... what are they going to do? Force a dog to smoke K2 then ask the dog "do you feel sick?" "Are you high yet?" Are you feeling angry and criminally insane?" "Can you still talk?"

Fuck me ... what would they do if the dog answered? Market the stuff ???

For all the fact that I've never been a fan of John Banks, he was the only MP to vote against the passing of the Bill in it's current form.

It appears that once the amendment was vetoed, every other MP simply caved in and accepted the Bill - along with it's warts..

Where do I sign up, do you have to be a specific type of animal to apply, or just an ordinary joe bloggs kinda animal.

Tis pretty fucked up though, anyone who thinks animals dont have feelings is dreaming. You should see my dogs when I go out without them.

I agree entirely. We have a user base of several hundred thousand recreational users. I guarantee you the cost of legalising cannabis, setting up a database, asking people to register and then monitoring their health through the current health system would cost by far less than jamming animals full of synthetic crap and monitoring the outcomes will be. It will also yield honest results by targeting the user base and not his best friend. But nooooooooo, they're too stupid for that. Much better to have criminals profiting.
