I'm not qualified to answer your questions to the degree your questions deserve. You've stopped looking at V5 VW's so my work here is done.

    Doug, stop polishing yer knob!
heh... cheers mate. The options are what I needed. I guess it's yer donald duck as to what you get out of the lifespan of a motor... was just looking for most likely candidate to keep on truckin for 5/10 years. Cheers for the food for thought

Dunno if I'd trust that dodgy fucka... that and I've got my own uncompromising Scots negotiator here. Always raises more than a smile when she kicks off in bargaining mode.

So, buy a Corolla seems to be the message. Who am I to deny such wisdom. Will go check out Porsche.

Corrolla or corona would be my picks, but a couple of those nissans you have posted look like they may of been looked after, so should be ok for a fair few kms yet.
Hope your not paying for it with money.

Finally, something I'm relatively qualified to comment on.

I'll PM you my home number, I still have my wholesale contacts from when I was in the trade and I can take you for a wander round a couple of warehouses in the Hutt.

Already been said but, steer clear of late model Primeras with CVTs. And ya can't go wrong with a Corolla.

    Give us a bell mate.

I had a 306 1.9 td Pug with nearly 400k on it. Never missed a beat.
My brother has had Pugs exclusively over the last 45 years. He will never have anything else.

I'd be staying the hell away from Euro stuff. New or old, I've heard some shocking stories, expensive repairs etc.

Avoid CVT gearboxes, GDI motors from Mitsubishi etc.

I'd be staying with Honda, Nissan, Toyota and the like. Always important how they have been looked after, but they don't tend to be thrashed like bikes.

I'll be looking to get a manual which should mean I won't have to run the gauntlet of CVT... although I have it on dodgy authority, , that VVTi's aren't CVT... that and I miss driving a manual.

Our VW Polo, $2000 for a new computer chip, always something electrical not working. Nice to drive tho, if it had a 5spd it would've been fun
