The write up is quite good on them and only 190kg complete with magnesium wheels plus the size of most 600s of the same time period.

A FZR100 weighs 209kgs dry, YB8 180kgs. GSXR1100 228kgs, Bimota SB6 190kgs these reductions haven't been achieved by using helium in the tyres. As for rigidity I have raced a FZR 400 framed FZR 600 for the last 5 seasons, having just built a 600 engined YB7 Bimota the difference is night and day with the Bimota being a much stiffer race orientated bike.

They haven't been achieved by trimming 30-40kg from the OE frames either, I suspect there's a bit more of the Colin Chapman theory of mass reduction involved.

Drop the fzr exup cast iron midpipe collector with valve assy and that is 10kg saved.
Drop the fzr wheels and fit magnesium replacements and there is another very large chunk.
Airbox and fairings would be a couple also saved.
Likely the chain and sprocket set would be a kg lighter.
Fzr had a very heavy rear subframe and inner wheel guards also.
Stock muffler was stainless cover also.

Yep. Colin Chapman again: "take those fucking spring washers off, I'm not paying for them to take a free ride"

There's a bunch of shit attached to production bikes (Jap ones in particular) that contribute fuck all to the business of navigating your average road let alone a track.

I don't personally have a problem with washers, but your list is just the beginning.

And yet again: "Any car which holds together for a whole race is too heavy."

Japanese bikes of that era were prone to have brakets holding brackets.

Quite feasible if they did indeed use their own cams. The watercooled motor was a bit better than the last air/oil donk.
FWIW I dynoed an 1100L air/oil speedway minisprint motor at 148hp at the wheels. A pipe,39mm flatslides, alky and careful assembly. All stock internals.

I was thinking of my bandit which gave about 135 with gsxr bits n pipe, and then my K6 of present with a claimed 155/160 ?
Did the SB6 have many mods over gsxr s , or was it all weight savings? they were around 2 grand dearer than gsxr s when i was looking too.

You'd never go hungry with Nigella Gaz.
If it weren't for flashbacks...I'd have no memory at all..

Finally someone with a blackbird does not expect nearly 10k for it.

That gsxr750 looks pretty good. Were they ever very popular or any good?
