How do I wire my Tacho????

Doing a few mods to an old GSX1100 and fitting a later model GSXR750 dash including electric tacho. Im trying to wire up the tacho to the original wiring loom (not so original anymore) and need help in powering up the electric tacho. I've tried the obvious like connecting the wire from the tacho to the wiring connecting to the coils. Should I go further to try connecting to the pulse coil wiring or CDI or is there an easy fix.

Normally a tacho has three wires, one power, one earth and one signal, which normally goes to whichever coil wire comes from the ignitor (one coil only).

Ive wired up tacho's in cars before with the signal wire to the coil. This worries me a bit because this bike has 2 dual coils. Im heading out to the shed now to have another crack at it.

you have to run the signal wire for the tacho into the ignition wire before it goes into cdi because when it comes out of cdi and heads off to coil if you put it in that wire it will not work.. i found this out when i just recently put a tacho on my mini

All sorted, wired it up same as last night. Revved it harder tonight and looks like its working OK, problem was that tacho does not work below 3000rpm which is the minimum on the tacho face, revved the hell out of the old girl and it pulled near 10000rpm.... sweet.
