    Briefly:

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, Socialism focuses on the weakest link, the lowest common denominator as the standard!

I prefer systems that focus on the strongest link and getting as many of the weaker links as possible up to that level as the standard.

The more strong links a chain consists of the less likely the chain is to fail prematurely.

That does not mean advocating casting out the weak links but nurturing them in a way that honours their competence and capacity to contribute.

Unfortunately the majority of New Zealanders think the government is all powerful and is in possession of a limitless vault of money that they are entitled to a share of!

My preferred attitude, don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel ... get on down there and light the bloody thing yourself!

Simplest terms of reply to your question mashman ... fire away, I think I can hack it!
Cheers pops . I agree with the nurturing bit and the lighting at the end of the tunnel (make sure you send an electrician to light it, then you can put a switch at the other end and save the walk ... and don't forget to give him, or her, a bulb), but there are those who won't want nurturing until they're about 55 or 54 or 53 or 52.99 or 52.98 or 52.97 etc... years old (if at all).

What/who is/are the weakest link? and who decides what/who the weakest link is/are?

    Mediocrity? By what/who's measure?

It is no small mercy that we don't have a complete fraud as Priminister, like that ''warm fuzzy'' idiot in Australia, Kevin Ruddiculous. Look at how that ''Government'' in six years has laid waste to the Australian economy.

Yes it was a myth, but all isms are myths in the end however when we were closer to that myth and the gap between haves and have nots was much smaller it resulted in more caring across the board and people being seen as people instead of just resources. Yes there were exceptions to this but now it is the rule to treat others as things instead of people. As the BS about the PM from the state house that is more the capitalistic egalitarian BS that anyone can be rich if they just try harder were as the old NZ recognized that some just wanted there pint at the end of the day and not a yacht at the end of the garden.

Key is reckoned to be one of the laziest PM's ever to inhabit the office - it goes with being a total psychopath................like Obama - don't listen to what he says - look at what he does!

A good point Drew. Will there be an increase of internet surveillance because of the chinese hacking and espionage that is happening?

Will GCSB be interested in chasing this, since there is ample evidence of vast quantities of valuable information being stolen. This matter IS of national interest. Lots of western countries are being data-mined and the appropriate govenment/s need to take action on this matter to protect national security, intellectual property and the research and development sector.

Todays paper reports an NZ company scammed, It imported some stuff from Korea. The invoice was sent by email. Between being sent, and received the account number was altered and the NZ company paid the funds into the scammers account.

I bet the GCSB dont investigate this either. (Their advice was "change your password every month...)

Of course the solution is to encrypt your emails. That stops the scammers AND the GCSB. Bet we dont get advised to do that.

That's a terrible interpretation and misinformatyion about Nietzsche. He was completely against Nihilism .. he rallies against it constantly - and what people have misinterpreted is his sarcasm and piss take statements as serious position statements ...

Nietzsche's ideal was the Noble being of higher purpose ...

Michael Joseph Savage but of course he was actually a "monetary reformist" (Social Credit advocate) rather than a true Labour socialist type.

Savage died early, Peter Fraser stepped up to the plate for WW2 and our prime ministers have since followed the trend of either displaying some "quirky personal traits" or were otherwise generally pretty forgettable characters.

They were quirky, not memorable for anything useful (I knew Holyoake, lived in his "safe" electorate) Marshal was a gentleman.
