Not quite sure about this (handing him over) on the one hand did they let him in with this in mind or did they just get blinded by his dollar benefits they might receive!

Key's explanation of the tidying up of section 8 and 14 is quite plausible to me, I noticed that Campbell was well prepared with evidence of one section that suited his argument but didn't have the other ready to show us maybe he thought we are too stupid and needed "his" guidance again!

The law exists and was put in place by Labour and it needs clarifying to make it work properly from what I have read I am happy with that explanation, Labour have much to hide and this is just but one of their fuckups that are coming home to bight them, me thinks they protest too much!

Well I do know a couple or so, one is a close cousin and he was always "very squeaky clean" as a kid maybe there might be some out there after all.

Bollocks - the law was quite clear and explicit - no spying on NZ citizens - but that didn't stop the GCSB from going right ahead. If you are happy with the "explanations" coming from the purveyours of this ill written odious piece of legislation (it is both highly invasive and badly written - I've read it), then so be it, but most people who have seen the legislation and understand the longer term implications are not - and if you think this law is OK - they've got yet another piece of invasive, controlling crap coming down the chutes at speed that should effectively destroy the ISP's, trust, and any illusions of privacy left after this piece of treasonous legislation, written by and for the NSA! John Key is a psychopath - part of their modus operandi is to appear charming to the outside world, but, like most people, look at what he does, not what he says. If you like to bow meekly down to authoritarian bully boys, then OK, but a lot of us won't!

I'm not sure Big Norm was ever a freezing worker ... (he was certaily qualified as a stationary engine driver ) - before entering Parliament he was the mayor of Kaiapoi - the youngest mayor in the country at the time - at age 30 ... He was in Parliament from 1957 to 1974, when he died ...

Hardly think he was a freezing worker ..

And I would also disagree that Holyoake and Marshall were better PMs ...

Chris Finlayson - a typical example of the self indulgent, rude and arrogant miscreants who are under the illusion that they are born to rule and superior to the rest of us.

“The real damage is done by those millions who want to 'survive.' The honest men who just want to be left in peace. Those who don’t want their little lives disturbed by anything bigger than themselves. Those with no sides and no causes. Those who won’t take measure of their own strength, for fear of antagonizing their own weakness. Those who don’t like to make waves—or enemies. Those for whom freedom, honour, truth, and principles are only literature. Those who live small, mate small, die small. It’s the reductionist approach to life: if you keep it small, you’ll keep it under control. If you don’t make any noise, the bogeyman won’t find you. But it’s all an illusion, because they die too, those people who roll up their spirits into tiny little balls so as to be safe. Safe?! From what? Life is always on the edge of death; narrow streets lead to the same place as wide avenues, and a little candle burns itself out just like a flaming torch does. I choose my own way to burn.”

Finlayson's address at least dealt with and delivered facts and you reply with insults and innuendo's, this is typical of most of the opposition to this legislative change!

With respect I have always rated your contributions at a much higher than this.

I don't support the National party as a rule but they are way out in front of the opposition on integrity on this issue. IMHO.

Uuuuumm .. eeerrrr .. under the Nats' current watch a journlists e-mails, her movements around Parliament and her phone rercords have been handed over to the Henry Enquiry ...

An MP (Dunne) had his e-mails checked and handed over ...

There is some dispute about what DonKey's staff knew about al this and when they knew it - and how much they colluded

This does seem to impinge on their privacy .. and freedom of the media ..

All this occured under a National watch - and yes, it appears to be against the law ... however the goalposts have now moved and what was once illegal may well now be legal .. but will that stop illegal activity ? illegal is now legal .. so that's all right ..

But if they do not stick within the law now will they stick within the new law ?? Doubtful ...

I don't agree that Finlaysons address delivered facts. In fact, the governments comments and explainations have been very far from any cohesive resemblance of the facts. Innuendo, false promises, obfuscation and downright lies, all delivered with a "you poor fools don't know and couldn't handle the truth and we know better than all of you - even the constitutional lawyers!", facetiousness and bluster!

There may well be a need for some legislative change, but not one that legalises and expands upon what is an impinging on basic freedoms and privacies with bully boy tactics for a third party.

(A visit by the Director of the NSA, a couple of months ago was surely not coincidental - they were probably getting instructions delivered to them in no uncertain terms!)

The other mob - I have my doubts about any of their motives as well - they have been cut from much the same cloth as this bunch for the last 30 yrs - there needs to be a major shakeup before I'd trust any of them.

I find it amusing that Finlayson's address was greeted with accusations from the left that his was "dealing in personalties", when for months Russell Norman has been calling Key "Muldoonist".

First (SPman) let me apologise for posting a "judgemental" comment re your views, I respect your right to and your expressed opinions.

You said you have actually read both section 8 and section 14 of the GCSB legislation, would you be able to post them both in their original form and their revised form?

I would like to see the "actual" difference between the two.

I thought Campbell live was going to do that but as usual just the biased bits that suited his show were shown.

I think we are stuck between a rock and a hard place with the quality of our politicians, personally I don't rate very many of them at all.
