    India bans 2-stroke motorcycle rickshaws

Another nail in the coffin of the 2-stroke engine was hit home as the Punjab Transport Department banned the registration of two-stroke engine motorcycle rickshaws as public transport.

Transport Secretary Agha Nadeem said “The government’s transport policy says that all motorcycle and scooter rickshaws should be eliminated in major cities by the end of 2007. The pollution will be reduced to the minimum with the introduction of CNG four-stroke engine scooter rickshaws.”

With India banning 2-strokes, this is one of the last major users of this technology. So how long before the 2-stroke is finally killed off?

The banning of 2 strokes - and everybloody other thing you can think of to do with bikes or cars - is led by California and not India. They have banned all 2 strokes there,so now we even have 4 stroke weedeaters. The technology is there to clean up the 2 stroke, has been for decades....if they can make money out of it they will, but not before.

I doubt we will ever see the end of 49.9cc 2 stroke scooter engines, but other uses will continue to dissappear and be replaced with 4-stroke or electric (chainsaws, lawnmowers, larger motorbikes).

Does that mean there will be a rush of 2 stroke motorbikes and scooters exported from there? Because I need a faster bike.
