Announce Wanting to rent a motorcycle over December, Christchurch or Dunedin

    Hi All,

I'm like in Townsville, Australia and will be coming over to NZ for a couple of weeks in December. My dad and I are looking to go on a bit of a road trip and I'm after a bike for about 1 week. Looking for something comfortable for the long ride, 600cc+ prefered. I have looked at the price for rentals in NZ..., but I'm not a member of the Royal Family, hence looking for something private. Flick me an email if you have something.

Can pick up from Chch or Dunedin

    Schroeder_nicholas@hotmail.com

    Cheers,
    Nick.

We've had a thread about this before I think. Renting out a personal bike to someone alters insurance, likely won't be covered etc. Judging by the short lives some of the rental bikes have and expenses for running the bikes, there's a reason they cost that much...

$300 for a week? Guess that should cover tyre wear, but not much else.

In all fairness you'd probably get a lower CC'd bike for that from a generous soul.

These personal as opposed to purely business requests usually ignore risk.

What happens if the "renter" bins it?
Where's the documentation to prove what was agreed to, and who does a background check to see the renter is capable of paying for any damage ?
What happens if the renter comes to grief because a widget on the bike fails?
    etc etc etc

I loaned mine at no charge because I didn't want to be liable, but then took a hit when the rider dropped it. Lesson learnt? If I don't know you and am not prepared to forgive you any debt for damage, you don't get my bike.

Hi all, I'm English ( currently, last 20 years .... living in OZ ) & coming over end of Jan for a month cruising around ....mainly the South Island. I'm privately renting a bike & like you said it can be problomatic ....but BOTH ways ! as sure the renter can disrespect the bike & the bike can be a Lemon too ...so it cuts both ways !! I think the way to go is through good COMMUNICATION on both sides ...to get to know how each side ticks & whats expected. I'm renting from an SR500 from a guy who's as straight as an arrow ...which has just been rebuilt . There is absolutely no way that I'd abuse the trust put in me or come to that ruin my holiday or his machine by abusing the bike & fucking it up. I run & build SR 500's myself so I know them real well inside & out. I'll enjoy the bike alright BUT with full respect for it & the owner . If there's a problem we'll sort it ammicably I'm sure of that. Cheers all ..looking forward to meeting some of you. Johny Brando.

Whats the cost to rent a bike for a week. Wouldn't you be better off paying more and getting a genuine rental bike.
Not a lot of chance a stranger will rent out a quality bike.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.

Fook that-if you cand afford a rental

you ceratainly cant afford the repairs req in a mishap if you cant afford a rental (someone rear ended me at the lights, and bill came to nearly 2k for mostly plasic and lens damage)-learnt my lesson a few times over via so called friends.......one rang me to say my bike broke down in the bush,ok but why wait until the next day to tell me, and why leave it their in the open for someone else to take JERK....then lent my car recently which I had to chase for its return only to find they had hit a bollard init leaving me with a 1k bill, never see or hear from them now!....who needs 'friends' aka users......never a lender nor borrower shall I ever be.

Fair enough, though the name Katman is already taken.
