I loved u2 when War came out. Boy was good They lost it under a blood red sky. I was about 16 or so. I felt had when I watched a concert from another country & it was exactly the same as what I'd seen in the logan campbell centre.

I will look at that movie later thanks HDC.

You're right RVC about John Bonham. Incredible skills. My girl is learning drums at the mo & I try to show her some of the greats.
i bought an electric guitar many years ago with the sole purpose of learning the intro to 'over the hills & far away'. Never got there fully but enjoyed the journey.

Wonder how many people are going to go to bed with Da na Na da na NA going thru their heads

id be pretty suprised if there were many violas on there

violins and cellos, possibly double bass, maybe violas...its hard to tell as there so much going on in there all occupying the same sonic space

    but anyway...a great song

I just checked the tab & it looks like a few strings have to be retuned?

    its dadgad tuning

so, starting at the low E( that fat string)

    drop it to D,
    5th string stays A
    4 string stays D
    3rd string( the g string) stays G
2nd string drop it to A
top string( thinest) drop it to D

often people call the fat string the top string, thats not correct, its the bottom string as its the lowest note

    good luck

yeah plus I have violas on the brain (yes, its a thing) because of listening to early Velvet Underground so obsessively ....

its a guitar, strings in unison( same notes)

there is brass in there too but on the b section between each of the verses playing the descending phrases

there is also a early keyboard, i think its a mellotron playing on the really epic section that is the outro,

    my favourite song ever

    POW!
Except that Mr Jones says there is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashmir_(song)

Sitar + mellotron + string section

Orchestral brass and strings with electric guitar and mellotron strings appear in the song. This is one of the few Led Zeppelin songs to use outside musicians. Session players were brought in for the string and horn sections.[3] According to Jones, "the secret of successful keyboard string parts is to play only the parts that a real string section would play. That is, one line for the First Violins, one line for Second Violins, one for Violas, one for Cellos, one for Basses. Some divided parts [two or more notes to a line] are allowed, but keep them to a minimum. Think melodically".[8]

No he doesn't. JP says that he'd been influenced by sitar tunings for his guitar parts, but there's no mention of sitars used on the actual record.
