Looking to fabricate some chambers for my smoker

Hello all, I've been thinking of getting some chambers fabricated for my RD250E from 1978. I'm keen to design my own - I have a port map of my cylinders and I know the theory of pipe design, I just lack the ability to work metal, so I need someone to help me fabricate the thing and mount it to the bike. I'm trying to do this on a bit of a budget/I don't want to blow all my money on a pair of pipes. I'm looking to remove as much labour as possible from whoever fabricates it - I can sort out the pattern for the pipe and map it out on sheet steel, all you'd have to do is cut it, roll the cones, weld and help fit the thing onto the bike... Anyone on here with welding and pipe experience that'd be keen to help/work with me on this?

I could help you out. I dont have a roller or access to one but I can do all your welding and cutting for you at a good price.
I could have it done and fitted in maybe a week if you left me your bike. Probably be around $300 for labour and the cost of gas and consumables. Could be quite a difficult job depending on how many problems I run into along the way.

Awesome, do you know anyone that could do the rolling? I was just thinking of going so far as to build cardboard models of the pipes to the correct dimensions so there should be as little hassle as possible when it comes to fitting them to the bike, I was even thinking of using the stock flanges and mounting hardware, and if possible, the stock header too (but chances are it'd be the wrong dimensions). The stock pipes are threaded and screw onto the header. It'd be awesome if I could get pipes made up to go on in the same way... I'm going to start having a think about it tonight and have a look at what I've got. I'm not after anything too extreme, I ride my bike around town a lot so I'd like to keep some power down low.

Definety make cardboard templates man. It eliminates guess work and you will have a clear picture as to what its going to look like. I don't know anyone that could do the rolling but any general engineering shop should be able to cut and roll them for you. Might cost you a bit though, if your old pipes aren't to fucked you could look at getting them HPC coated. Looks trick and has a 3 year warranty on rust. They acid dip them and then coat them with ceramic. Will be a much cheaper option for you unless your pipes are totally unusable and you need to make new ones

I didn't know about ceramic coatings - I'll give HPC a call and see what they say! Thanks for the heads up. The stock pipes are usable, but bloody expensive to get rechromed...

HPC do very good work. I have done maybe 10 sets of headers through them. They can do a chrome like finish and it looks awesome.
Shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred bucks and will keep your pipes looking good for yearrrrrs

Yeah they do a good deal, over the phone they gave me a rough guesstimate of about $150 to strip the pipes, and they charge $20 per linear foot for the coating, so all in all, I'd be looking at about $400. Pretty good!

Don't HPC coat 2 stroke pipes. I've done it a couple of times but they shouldn't retain the heat like the ceramic coating does. I got these striped & just painted them.

i have a program called plate and sheet it prints out any template you like with what ever thickness material
