It's attached to an offroad kart, when I got it she ran all right, pulled fucken hard and sounded like a chainsaw on crack. After a while it started to run only on one cylinder, I replaced plugs and adjusted air/fuel screw, went to go for a burn and it died under load. Starts and idles fine, albeit only on one cylinder, but when you put your foot down it coughs and splutters and all that good shit. Before I changed plugs and air/fuel screw it ran fine on one cylinder. Changed plgs and screw back and still has this problem..
So I decided when it doesn't sell I'll pull it apart, check out pistons and rings etc, possibly replace those, rebuild both carbs and it should be good to go? If this is the case I should be able to have it done for <$200? One thing of concern to me is water in gbox, which apparently is water pump bearing?
So anyway my question here is if I replaced pistons/rings, rebuilt carby with rebuild kit and changed that bearing am I likely to get a good running motor out of it? After all its an old two stroke, what else could go wrong with it?
What are some other things to look out for?
What's the likely cause on the stall under load issue? I'm no mechanic my thoughts are carb needs tune/adjusting as its flooding engine? There's a large build up of gas in exhaust when I remove it after running, on the side that's not igniting. There is spark both cylinders so I'm thinking fuel. But then its old and probably not maintained, so could it also be compression gone on that side? Have no compression tester to check
Anything else that might be the problem? I'm not going to give this engine away and seem to be having a hard time finding a decent replacement for less than the cost of a whole motorcycle
El cheapo fix would be good, but there's no point doing that if the internals are poked as well, hence the idea of a top end strip down..
