Little pipsons Bridgestone Round 4 Winter Series 2013 report

Arrived to Manfeild nice and early to get a place in the stables. The sun was shining and looked to be a good day for racing.

    Qualifying
I got the bike warmed up and ready to go out for qualifying only to find another problem with the bike this meeting. The power bands were not working so I pulled into the pits straight away to get it looked at. Nigel Armstrong opened the power band to see if that made a difference but no luck when I went to test it so came into pits again. This put me last on the grid as I did not get to do a full lap to get a qualifying time.

    Race 1
Between qualifying and race 1, Nigel and Simon Robson had a good look to see if they could find the problem but no luck. So they just jammed the power bands open which helped a bit but was still not perfect but at least I could go out and get some points. Having this done to the bike meant I would have slower starts but anyway I got a reasonable start and was 7th into turn 1 which was good, Mihi Banks was just in front of me I stuck in behind her for a lap but got past on the outside of her at point 2. Simon Robson was a bit in front of me after getting past Mihi but managed to catch up and get past him without any trouble which put me 5th overall. The next guy Joshua Head was a bit too far ahead to catch up so I stuck with 5th overall and 3rd in the 150s.

    Race 2
I got a pretty good start and was in 6th again by turn 1 and was keeping up with Joshua. I managed to get past Joshua at the hair pin with 2 laps left but wasn’t able to make it stick as he had that bit more power to get away on the straight. I kept up with Joshua for the rest of the race but was unable to get past which left me with another 3rd in the 150s. After the race we found that the clutch was slipping which we think could have been a big part of the problem.

    Race 3
I got a really good start and was in 5th by turn 1 already I was feeling better about this race and managed to keep up with Uriah Ryken who was 1st in 150s. I got some good laps in this race and was sticking right up behind Uriah for the entire race until the sweeper came in the last lap were I managed to out brake him and take 1st and made it stick until the finish line. I bet him by 0.174 and got a best lap of the entire day and on the last lap of that race which was 1:34.894. I have done better laps but I think that is pretty good considering the problem I had.
This leaves me with a 50 point lead in the 150s over 2nd

A big thanks to Nigel Armstrong and Simon Robson without their help I would not have been able to race. And the PMCC for the loan of the bike.

Ummm...definition of power band from wikipedia below

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_band

The power band of an engine or electric motor refers to the range of operating speeds under which the engine or motor is able to operate efficiently. While engines and motors have a large range of operating speeds, the power band is usually a much smaller range of engine speed, only half or less of the total engine speed range (electric motors are an exception – see Electric Motors below).

Specifically, power band is defined by the range from peak torque to peak horsepower (or sometimes to redline). For example: combustion engines typically generate maximum torque at perhaps 2500 RPM. The peak horsepower might be 5000 RPM. Such an engine would have a power band of 2500 to 5000 RPM, in which the engine would be very efficient.

It used to be funny hearing everyone on here talking as if a power band was an actual part of an engine, but actually its not any more.I even get people asking me if I sell them for gods sake

So enough with the power band jokes thanks
