I never heard a discouraging word uttered among my parents and their contemporaries.

Very true ... but how many dollars will it take to make that difference next time so that our expectations are kept realistic?

Just this weekend I was talking to somebody who had bought a flash classic car.

Part of the reason the previous owner sold it was that he constantly got serious comments of "You must be earning way too much" "How did you managed to afford a car like that" and similar snide remarks. (yeah, I know he needed to harden up!)

But common theme - you own something flash worth a bit of coin and the green eyes come out straight away...

It'll change. When the boomers retire the economy simply won't support them in the style to which they've become accustomed. Think it'll be uncomfortable for a few years, though, until their work ethic is recalibrated to meet their expectations.

Dunno where that came from, as I said I don't remember any such attitude when I were younger. I suspect it's an imported piece of bullshit. The refugees from the middle English class wars display very similar cultural deformations. It's ugly. Cancerous.

No mention of the All Blacks/South Africa final this morning (on the forum) .... now they (All Blacks) were real winners but no celebration!

I wonder if there will be a parade in Auckland or is that just an every day expectation that they "win"!

All we need now is a billionaire who hates the US of A enough to fund the kiwi campaign ...

Was a bloody good game that, I thought. Not necessarily because the AB,s won either, just seemed to be a nice flowing game with bits of drama every now and then. I usually prefer to watch league myself but enjoyed that game on the weekend.

They never got a parade for the 91/95/99/2003/2007 RWC loses...only when they win, the AB's don't need the ''there there it'll be fine, see 2173 people do love you'' pat on the back.
What amuses me is that, ETNZ have been together for 10 years and must have a lot of good sailing over those years (I don't follow it that closely so have no idea) and won the Louis Vuitton cup (big deal it would seem? nobody really gave a toss about that) it was only when the Americas cup started that a handful of people in NZ started to take notice, the last two weeks of a four year campaign.

Keep a close eye on things over the next while to see how many export themselves to chase the big money...three loses in a row can't be good for the mental health.

Yeah - I enjoyed the game immensely .. helped by the "will we/won't we" excitement ... until it was clear we would ..

Best game of rugby I have ever seen!

Winning it in Ellis Park made it all the more enjoyable though especially as the Boks played so hard and so well! (respect)

Yes top game by the AB's and the Sorth Arfrikans as well. Best I've seen.
No need to bitch about people wanting to take pleasure from saying well done to the yachties though. Where's the harm in some people wanting to feel good about the result? If others don't care - that's OK. Just shut up and let others have their wicked way for once.
If the AB's had an international once every four years instead of once a fortnight..maybe they would be heralded more. I feel a little overwhelmed with rugby....

That's the whole reason to get the financing in place - so the team members can be put on contract so they CANT be poached by overseas teams

See, that's why they needed a hug.

And no offence to the ABs but I don't think it takes a 100 million or so to design and build their boots from scratch, a year or two for them to learn how to run in them, all so that they can compete in a one-of test match, the winner of which then gets to redefine the whole game, boots and all, for the next match maybe four years later.

So yeah the America's cup is an absurd competition when you look at it, but there's just a teeny bit more to it than a game of rugger. So not really a fair comparison IMHO.

Wonder what the ABs would say if you asked them whether ETNZ deserved a celebration? Might be a bit of mutual respect there, I reckon.
Moe: Well, I'm better than dirt. Well, most kinds of dirt. I mean not that fancy store bought dirt. That stuffs loaded with nutrients. I...I can't compete with that stuff.
