ITS ALIVE!

Well folks, the katana is once again running! :hbd:

It has taken a lot of cranking, and one battery recharge, but the engine is running! It has taken me three years to get this far (2.8 years were mostly just sitting around wondering what i was going to do with the bike).
Bike was taken totally appart, frame painted, then some scary moments of re-assembly, but here I am.
So watch out, ill be back on the road in no time!

What sort of Katana is it? Not a 250cc is it (would not that just be a Ka)

btw, she who must be obeyed in my household said you're doing well for a male - only 93% of the time spent pontificating (apparently I have some way to go to get up to that stunning level of action)

Well, shes running a bit rough, so needs a carb cleanout, but she has a strong pulse and will pull through nicely!

Thanks for the positive comments guys! Sorry, no pictures of text though - I didn't want there to be any evidence incase of failure

Heaps of work isn't it!
If it dosent rain tomorrow I will be riding my CBR600 for the first time (well 1.5km's to the petrol station dosent count) to the bike shop for a pre-re-compliance check. That too has been down to the frame. It still needs new tyes and a paint job though.
So if you see a patchy CBR600 smoking it's way in to wellington it will be me ;-)

Well, today was the big day - the road test!

3 years since I was last on the bike, so scared and excited at the same time.

I left the driveway slowly, the engine was a little rough till i gave it a fist full.
By the time i got to 2nd it felt like the cobwebs were gone.. Change into 3rd.. WEEEERRRRRR.. thought id missed a gear.. so went down, but same thing WEEEERRRRRR..
I came to a stop on the side of the road and had a fiddle with the clutch lever. I could feel it engaging the clutch, but there was no load on the engine.. So up and down gears.. let the clutch out.. Still nothing.

Time to push the bike home.. I turn the bike around and start the 100m walk back to the house. I hear something dragging. I look down only to see the chain in a heap by the back wheel.

Lesson learnt. When using a clip type link, always make sure you put the solid plate on before the clip - the clip will not hold the chain togeather by itself!

Keep a spare link with your tools. I have never needed it but Ive given it to others who have...
