Not sure you'd get much more out of it really, especially if you want to do it "cheaply". IMO I wouldn't bother with modifying it, if you want more power buy the GSXR model.

The engine in those things goes back to the Dark Ages (when Lucas made electrics). It is not the most efficient or powerful motor to come out of the factory - even when the motor design was new the lack of power was commented on. My GT250X7 was faster...
In short, if you want more power, buy another bike. You might be able to squeak another pony or so out of it with exhausts and jetting, but even with internal mods and head porting, etc, you will still have a slow bike. It will be faster, as it will be carrying less weight in your wallet...

Speed 4's won't get cheaper than they are now - TNZ got a batch of real keenly priced ones. $11,990 is rrp from memory but it will only last as long as current stock.

Buy an FXR150. They put out 20 ponies.

I wouldn't bother to modify your bike as above people have stated.
Buy and ride. When you're ready and legal, buy a bigger bike.

So, since you've got money left over after your purchase, buy protective gear instead of mods. That's money well spent.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

my advise is kinda like lucebruces--cept --instead of putting your money into go fast bits get good rubber and suspension -then learn to outride guys on bigger faster bikes.
Young Two smoker is doing just that on his little 55hp zxt400 -up against guys on gixxer thous
