BMW’s K1200 R voted ‘Motorcycle of the Year’

The 163bhp BMW K1200 R has been voted ‘Motorcycle of the Year’ by the top US publication, Motorcyclist – just two months after the bike’s official launch.

“Give BMW credit for doing what Japan wouldn’t or couldn’t do: bolt serious horsepower into a big, comfortable naked bike. This German translation leaves its contemporaries looking relatively underdressed when it comes to technological accoutrements,” said Motorcyclist magazine.

The magazine added: “After re-inventing the heart and soul of its motorcycle line-up in little more than a year, BMW clearly isn’t afraid of thinking outside the box. In fact, we’re pretty sure it scrapped the box entirely.”

I thought it was boat the first time I saw it. Obviously they haven't seen Bandit 1200's or CB1300's etc in the States yet.

I don't think the CB or (gasp) Bandit are up to the Beemers level. But they are half the price.

    "technological accoutrements,”
or - shit that you don't really need on a motorcycle.
They go nice. Sprint ST will get my KR vote - so far - it's only August.

Love the look and sound of the beemer - but didn't they release it then withdrawl it a couple of months later due to ongoing fuelling issues?

This months Bike mag has a review on it - and they swear it's one of the best bikes ever released.

    I want a go.

I'm sure we've heard it all before. Most bikes are generally top notch these days.

    They dont lack pace.
I rode with Derek Mcadam on one at the last KR track day. It was shitting on me on the straights. Didnt look too easy to chuck around though.

maybe the "technological accoutrements" were getting in the way.

The Duolever front suspension sets it apart form the rest, allegedly. According to all the reviews I've read everyone who rides one raves about it.

The front end is now totally separate from the front brakes. Apparently you can actually dive on the brakes mid corner and the bike wont stand up. Scary thought!

It is very powerful (faster than a Bird, slower than a ZX12R). Remote rear suspension adjustment (preload) great tank range, supremely comfortable, and with BMW reliability.

Sounds like a winner in my opinion.

Please can I have a ride?

Anyone want to read the latest review? PM me your e-mail address and I can neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not scan a copy of a review for you and e-mail it to you.
