Letting your reg lapse altogether is not a bright idea as you have it have the bike registered as a new bike if left unregistered for a year I think and you would have to pay any back reg owing when selling it.
Its hardly a crimimal offense like you make it out to be though

I would be the first to say ACC is far from perfect. However, the naivety of some in this country as to the alternatives is simply gobsmacking.

While rego hold isn't recommended as an ongoing practice there are a lot of motorcycles that take a winter 'holiday', and that's according to the local WOF testing station chappies. Makes sense to not be paying substantial ORCs when the said vehicle spends little time actually on the road during winter.

I can't afford fines of any type and I need my licence so everything stay's legal if I'm using it.

Cheaper for me to get pinged 3 or 4 times a year for not having rego on my Safari than to actually get it in theory. Haven't put it into practice though. Would imagine it is much the same on bigger CC bikes.

People in Auckland should be paying more than anywhere else in the country given that they have more vehicles and are therefore more likely to be in a crash.
