    [Rant] Useless Bastards

    [Rant]

Our pay goes through weekly (as most companies do) and ours was meant to go through last night... Got to the gas station... put some gas in my bike ($8.30 worth) and go into the gas station to pay...

    Give them my card... DECLINED...

Hold on.... it's pay day... thats not right....

I call up internet banking there in the gas station (how else am I going to pay for the gas?) and my account is in overdraft... way in overdraft...

Lucky for me the lady at the gas station knows I'm a regular, and agreed to let me come back and pay her tomorrow, she took down my name and address and rego number just incase... very nice little asian lady!

Get to work... speak to the security guard... he checks his telephone banking... he didn't get paid either...

Because I get to work early (7am) and the rest of the company only starts from about 8.30am onwards I have to wait to get some answers...

Checked my internet banking... and they (the bank) paid my rent (phew) and another AP that I have set up (even though I didn't have enough funds in my account), and that caused me to go into overdraft... and the bastards charged me a $50 "dishonour" fee

    Now my question is:

Can I demand for work to reimburse that $50 as it is there fault that I was charged that?

Where can I call to find out? Labour Tribunal?

*is so angry* Even if they put the banking through today it won't show until Monday... which fucks my whole weekend

I was under the impression that they legally have to inform you in writing if they are planning on making changes to your pay, which includes the date it goes into your account. They should certainly be paying that $50 fee!

Is there anywhere I can call to find out if I can demand it... the people I work for are alright most of the time... but they are as tight as whatever is the tightest thing when it comes to money... And unless I say "you are legally obliged (sp) to pay for it" they won't...

Ask nicely first. You might be surprised.

Unfortunately problems like this aren't that uncommon but I can truly sympathise - it used to happen to me when I was a salaried employee. If the problem was at your company's end, approach them and say you were charged a $50 honour fee (shit, thought my bank was bad at $25!) through no fault of your own - they SHOULD reimburse you. If the problem was at your bank's end, they should reimburse you. Either way, it wouldn't be a bad idea to approach your bank and point out that your pay was due to go in as usual last night, but for some reason it was delayed and you were not advised. It's too late in this instance, but when I've had this happen before, all you need to do is ring the bank and let them know your pay won't be going through for another day and they won't charge you any honour fees.

I wish I had a regular pay day... I get paid on publication, so at the moment I am owed over $2000 - but I had to pay for my petrol by credit card yesterday as I'm broke until it comes through! Got some yesterday, but it was a cheque so won't be cleared for a week.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Yes you can. I have been through that and any fee's incurred by your bank due to a mistake in the company should be paid by them

Well I called up the bank spot on 9am and spoke to my personal banker, he confirmed by dishonour (honor??) fee and stuff. I informed him of the problem and he said to get work to write a letter to the bank (which I will fax to them) stating the exact amount I am going to be paid and when they (the company) expect those funds to show in my account. Then the bank will reverse the dishonour fee and grant me an overdraft for the exact amount I'll be getting paid and once I get paid they will deduct it right away leaving me in a credit balance again...

I also spoke to our finance department and our accountant is playing "asshole" today (but I'm not surprised seeing as over 50 employees are calling in non-stop bitching about not being paid and similar complaints like mine). Our accountant said she would write me the letter "when she gets around to it". So I politley informed her to take her time because if she doesn't write the letter the company will be paying for my overdraft fee. The choice is theirs...

I should have the letter (or a resolution) by lunchtime at the latest...

    *is still angry*

Sounds like this is being sorted...still doesn't help you at the pump!! I had this happen a while back, and my employer politely told me that my automatic payments etc should be set up for a few days after pay day to allow for any 'unforseen circumsatnce' the company pay clerk may experience, namely too much piss drinking, and pulling sickies at the end of the week - assholes.

Yeah thats what they are then!

But now I'm even madder than before...

Still havn't got the letter... and by the looks of things I won't be getting it (because then the company would have to admit fault).

They are blaming the internet provider, because apparantly we have a direct link to the bank the company uses that isn't normal internet... it's like a direct link (I have never heard of this before... so I don't know if it's bullshit or not) ... and somewhere between our company and the bank there was a problem and the payments were not sent out...

I asked if I would be re-imbursed for my dishonour fee and was told "no" with absolutley no hesitation...

they said I (yes me personally... not the company) would need to sort that out with the internet supplier and/or bank that the company deals with... which means they are absolutley not taking responsibility for the error and like I said being tight assed bastards won't correct the error or help us (the staff) out.
