I thought so. Trouble with the likes of Campbell is that they try to dominate and steer the questioning to meet their opinion and corner the "guest" .When he can't get that, he looses it

Nah, I think he was a cock, smarmy salesman.
I know a bit about the oil industry & regardless of the amount of paper this gummint shuffle they are setting us up for a fail. Yon Bridges can't see past the hyperbole.
Never mind the environmental risk, the millions of dollars of equipment this company is supposed to have floating around.. Uh huh, like in Mexico? Think not.
Wonder what the earthquake strategy is?

Nah, his shoite is for the betterment of those already at the top who do the bulk of their investing offshore. So, where does the money go? That's the nub of it.
We get a bit of tax.
I would back drilling if we used the Norwegian model, NZ companies invested in from overseas, money stays here, we develop our own tech, designed & built here, sold overseas later, too, tax on profits used to bolster our own economy, lifestyle & development, strict regulations as to the percentage of foreign workers brought into "our" industry, safety standards paramount in all operations etc.
Currently it looks more like the usual fiasco, flog it off to the highest bidder & us underlings carry the can for any fuck ups with our tax.

That is what I was referring to rather than the pro's and con's of the subject matter ... the subject matter usually takes second place to Campbell.

I watched some clown try to give Campbell the bash once,,an the little prick shaped up quite well.

Really was quite disappointed,I reckon he'd look good with a busted nose.

Fair call. He was certainly sniping. Yon Bridges seemed to expect it & toed the party line playing spot the difference.

I've met JC a couple of times, looked after him & his family for a few days. Struck me as a good, considerate bloke with a lovely wife & kids. Never discussed current affairs with him, though.

its sad that Campbell is our only real interviewer on TV, he gets the pip when he did not get the answers he wants, he continues to talk over the other person, but i dont think Bridges went as well as Key did, the smart ass "we should do this more often" at the end made him come across as a tosser,

I laughed when he trotted that out last night. Complaining that it wasn't nice to talk over someone, then proceeds to attempt to do exactly that to Bridges!

Obviously Key and Bridges have been trained up by the same "interview techniques" person. Makes for entertaining viewing.

Another chortle with asking Mr Producer if they could continue instead of having a commercial break.
I guess he was hoping for another chance to redeem himself and get on top of the "discussion".

The fact remains that New Zealand's 100 or so offshore wells are all in a few hundred metres depth and most considerably less. To be considering drilling in 2,000m plus depths, in what are often some of the worst sea conditions in the world, and week or months away from the possible arrival of relief rigs and capable spill containment vessels is risky at best.

The Gulf of Mexico is still fucked following the Deepwater Horizon blowout despite the might of the US government being on BP's case. NZ ended up smiling and walking away from the mess that the Rena grounding caused and that was a tiny fraction of what a well blowout is capable of and was only a few kms off the coast.

When things go wrong you can guarantee that after a cursory attempt at a clean-up Anadako will wave Bridges and his hundreds of pages of submissions and risk assessments good-bye and leave NZ to a less than 100% Pure future. The assurances that Bridges is quoting won't be worth a pinch of shit but he doesn't, or refuses to, realise this. He came across as an arrogant tosser IMO.

While I don't agree with Campbell's approach at times he is now our only investigative TV journo and he is doing pretty well as the voice of NZ toward an increasingly 'fuck you' government.

I thought Bridges looked like an arrogant dick last night ...

He did say something interesting tho" - 1,000 wells have been drilled here ...

Well, fuck me ... and just how may barrels of oil has that produced? When are we going to stop this farce ... Petrobas had a look off east cape - and found bugger all and left ... No-one has found oil here - except in small uneconomic pockets. When are we going to stop looking for something that is not there ???
