I'xve seen this sort of thing in action - it's dangerous . the Council CEO reports to the council, chaired by te4h mayor .. ONLY the electors/voters can hold the mayor accountable .. If you have such rules who oversees and enforces them? The CEO ??? Who is responsible to the mayor, not the other way around.

I have seen employed staff use this situation, where there are "rules" for elected officials, to meddle in politics. NEVER a good idea.




They are employed - not elected .. should we then apply the same thing to MPs? Everyone who gets caught in bed with the wrong people must resign? (We'd have bugger all left two months after an election ...) The fact that he is at the top suggests it - if he is at the top who holds him to account? Only the voters .. and 100 turned out (only 100) to protest ...

Don't dissagree with you that much but Brown didn't simply have an affair in his private life, he intermingled it within his office as Mayor!

As such he should have been held accountable to his voters but that never happened and won't untill the next election!

Brown should have gone to the polls again to get a renewed vote of confidence (or not) but he conned the Auckland electorate by making his own rules!

I don't believe "sorry" cuts it and niether do a lot of Auckland electors ... he should have gone back to the people, that has been custom and practice in the past!

He was obviously afraid to do that and claimed "Trust me" and Auckland let him get away with it! FFS!

If he had faced the people and won it would all be past him and his Mayoralty would be on a sound footing, now he will be presumed second rate forever!
