No, people just need to learn to actually organise.

Coming across too many people that simply took lots of pictures and videos and did nothing with them. icloud/et al have storage limits, 5GB last time I checked. Phones etc are usually around 16GB (all up, not for you to store stuff).

Sounds easy coming from a tech, but just like people used to organise real photos, organise your digital pics. Offload them from phones/tablets, delete the crap, file, have a second copy (because either could fail).

Not to mention when your phone or sd card decides to turn it's toes up gone is gone, I can't believe the number of times I've heard of people losing all of the photos on their camera because the card died or someone accidentally selected format, and it was the only place they had them stored.

Back it up, at least 2 places, or at some point you're likely to lose it.

Sometimes it isn't that simple. I back up my images, video, music, etc into 2 places and currently have 8gb of backups.

But a year ago bought a new Canon video camera and it would have to be the most illogical bastard of a thing you could imagine.

After two years, reading the (mostly illegible) manual and playing with it heaps, I still cannot go to its file system, extract my video files and cut/paste them to a backup.

I've had to load the specific software for the camera and use that - because without it my computer doesn't 'see' the files. Even then, it will only move files around in the way it wants to and it won't delete the files off the camera. I'm reasonably computer literate but this thing has got me stonkered. I can't imagine how people who don't know their way around computers manage with machines like this.

99% of those pics taken are probably of someones shitty lunch or bathroom selfies anyway.

What does it store them on? You can get wireless SD cards now.

Most of mine are not worth keeping. Family pix end up on FB or similar anyway as a backup!

You're looking for devices with USB Mass Storage support. Yep, some don't (hence the software).

8GB of backups? I've got over 100GB of data I'd want to keep, and probably a couple of TB of data all up.

Boom. Mine does that to a dropbox folder, which then means it's on the 2 other computers that account is connected too. Wasn't the reason I set the system up but meh, it's there.

Didn't know about the tb on flickr though! Dropbox is US owned and only 4 gig I think. Thought about switching to a local server based in Nelson, but effort was needed for that so nahhhhh
