    Android ride tracking apps?

Does anybody use an app for tracking rides with their phone? Searching the store, I see a number of apps for running or cycling, or apps that will report a single position. My preference would be to simply go for a ride, and on return be able to download the route and display it on google maps.

Does anybody do this with success? If so, what do you use?

http://dualsportmaps.com/ is something I'd like to try. I think Nordie here on KB has got it. Not free.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Pirelli's Diablo Superbiker app is good, but don't sync it.
As long as you don't use the login function it is fine.

The sync is dodgy and I lost my data because of that.

Oruxmaps can use Garmin img map files, and apparently record a track. It can't route, and I haven't tried the tracking function, but it will certainly open and pinpoint your location on the NZ Open GPS Maps

Interesting thread. If we don't come up with an existing app that does everything we want, do we have someone in here to write the program?

Not just for us, but I imagine there is a world wide market for something so ingenious.

See the earlier post from someone: The Diablo Pirelli app:
records speed (top speed and average speed), lean angle (depends on how good your gyro's are in your phone but obviously this is gimmick anyway) and plots your ride out on a satellite image, allowing you to drill down to specific corners, etc and see what speed and "lean angle" you were at for a given plot.

Can set it to "track" or "road" mode.

As also mentioned above - DO NOT USE THE LOGIN FEATURE - it automatically uploads all your rides publicly online if you do.

It is actually quite accurate, provided you mount your phone on the bike. I used duct-tape (on all four sides for extra security) and sure enough it says 40 degrees when the bike is at around 40 degrees (motoGP guys are at 60-ish, I think).
Tested with onboard video and it seems accurate-ish.

If you put it in your pocket as the app suggests, it'll measure your body's lean angle and of course this won't be accurate to the bike's lean angle.

Very good to know if you are running out of tyre contact patch due to leaning too much. If the bike is leaning at more than 40 degrees and you're not getting your knee on the ground, rework the body position, not lean more.

    ---

Also, if you upload the data to the server, you'll lose it on the phone but with a bit of HTML trickery you can get the raw data (incl. GPS-based Google Maps coordinates) when reviewing it on the website.
With a little processing and some excel magic, you can get something like this (see attached; Pukekohe track shown).
Red = deceleration, Green = acceleration. The heavier the colour = the more decel (harder braking) / accel (harder gas).
It is then easy to compare two laps, or two riders, and see the braking points etc.

    I've been trying out Glympse.

Will report if it's any good.

Not a tracking app - more like a cheap and nasty version of a Spot. I've had a wee play with it. Allows someone to text ya and automatically get a text back with your location. A mate managed to nab me on the Pahiatua track with the phone in my jacket pocket.

Not sure about downloading to google maps... Plots a route map, average and max speed, distance, time. Probably better ones, just throwing it out there.

I used Google tracks for the first time yesterday and it works fine. Simply hit record, shove phone in pocket and you're done. It will bring up a Google map of where you have ridden and it tracks your average speed etc. You can even replay your ride afterwards. Nothing fancy, but does the trick.
