Yamaha Scorpio tacho light turns on and off?

    Hey guys

I have a 2009 Yamaha Scorpio, have owned it for just over a week and loving it. I took it out at night however and noticed that the light that lights up the tachometer turns on and off. It seems to be somewhat random. I've uploaded a video which shows what I'm talking about. In the video it goes on and off when I rev the bike but when I'm riding I can have a steady throttle and it will go on and off.

Before I went and open up the instrument cluster I thought I'd ask on here if you guys think it is an issue with loose cables, the bulb or something else? This is my first bike so I'm very much new to all of this.

Thanks in advance for your help

Check the seating of the bulb, and make sure it's tight and clean. Then trace wiring back to see if there is a loose connection at the other end.

I'm more inclined to go for the bulb being a bit loose in the holder.

I've had a similar issue with the tail light working its way loose and appearing to be a blown bulb until it's pushed back in. You may be able to get away with pulling the socket contact out a wee bit so the bulb stays in contact better. That worked for me on the tail light. Good luck.

    Loose filament in bulb IMO.

Pull cluster apart, not too hard. Switch bulbs. if the problem swaps dials - it's the bulb. If it goes away - mounting was loose.

    Replace with LED
