Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act or the ministry of silly walks

Queensland's most senior officers met with representatives of recreational motorcycle clubs and Police Minister Jack Dempsey today to discuss the enforcement of new laws targeting criminal motorcycle gangs.

Although both sides described the meeting as "productive", Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said officers would continue to pull over law-abiding riders as required for operational reasons.

"We know there're members of criminal gangs who are using all sorts of ploys and tactics to disguise what they're up to," said Mr Stewart.

"What we've tried to do is look for solutions so (law-abiding riders) are not either inconvenienced or harassed in any way.

"We have already come up with some ideas on how we might be able to achieve that, and I'm sure in further meetings. We will go a long way towards allaying their fears."

He admitted some police may have gone about their enforcement of the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment act too enthusiastically- with reports of some officers telling riders of Harley Davidsons to sell their bikes and buy cars.

"That's potentially not a tactic I would personally use but we have some very enthusiastic people out there in our job who are innovative and I'm sure that they will be making statements that perhaps may not be helpful at times," Mr Stewart said.
