I was following a heap of cars the other day...
Next thing a cop comes towards us with their lights flashing.

All of us all moved over to the left (yep cars on both sides of the road)
EXCEPT the car in front of me...

Well I eventually pulled up beside the car.
The Young blond girl was on the cell phone chatting away.
I spoke to her and asked if she had seen the cop car.
Girl - "What cop car?"
Me - "The one that just past you by with flashing lights"
Girl - "Nope" "Oh you mean the one that went the other way?"
Me - "YEP"
Girl - "Yeah, oh yeah I saw it"

Me - "Well you know that you are supposed to pull over to the left, when you seen any emergnacy vehicles with their flashing lights on... no matter what side of the road they are on. Its in the road code"

Girl - "Oh, I didn't know that. Thank you for telling me"

Like this young girl was about 17 or 18 years old..
Now at what point did she get her license and wasnt she supposed to read the road code to help her get her license.

You have to wonder just how many honestly do not read the road code.

With multichoice tests you can get away with very little knowledge of the roadcode. There will always be 2 options that are very obviously wrong, and generally a little common sense will get you through the other 2 options.

It was a theory test for learners liscence even though I was going for full. All I'm doing is getting my liscence transferd from American to NZ.

And considering that when I got down here, everyone (including a few cops) said the best way to explore the country is to hitchhike.

Maybe their definition of motorway needs to be more specific. Doesn't matter will be taking the test again soon and this time I will pass.

Having read both books, I believe, if my hallucination is correct, that the rules about motorway use are in both books. But it is against the law (you can be fined) if you are caught hitch hiking on the motorway.

Don't get 'motorway' and 'highway' confused.

You are not allowed to walk along the verge of a motorway, you can't cycle on a motorway etc.

The reason it is not illegal to 'undertake' in the left hand lane is because it too hard to define by law (I used to work in this field in an engineering capacity before I went insane). What happens when someone pulls into a right turn bay? You undertake. The law says (translated into english) "you should keep left when you can, but we cant rustle up enough legal jargon to describe it". p.s if you have questions regarding weird road or traffic designs let me know, coz I was a designer for many years and know a lot of the 'logic' (sic) involved.
