BMW R80 mods

Made some changes to the stock r80 I bought as a second bike. It's all reversible as she was very tidy and I wanted to be able to put her back to original if needed. Replaced the bars with wider mx ish ones, stock ones were stupidly narrow . Acewell computer replaces stock instruments , ken Howe in Wellington fabricated a new subframe to fit the aftermarket seat and did everything to a really high standard. Few little things to finish up.

they like the narrow bars..when i first rode my k100 rs it almost felt my wrists were touching,and the old(er) r 100 rs are even narrower

That's exactly how this felt with the stock bars, I'm keeping them and all the parts I've swapped out but a doubt they will ever be put back on.

I've looked over hundreds of BMW cafe racers/ customs over the years & I have to say yours rates as one of the best I've seen- very understated & retaining the airbox works better on your bike than some of the half cocked pods & big hole where the airbox should be.

Also I fricking hate mags however yours look great. Did you spray them in matt or satin?

You know that if you did the pinstriping on the tank in gold you could put on a JPS transfer & it would look very cool

Slight suggestion - could you get rid of the crash bars? They don't do anything & are a bit distracting to the eye.

ah very kind padmei, The mags are just sprayed with good quality etch primer (easier to touch up than powder coating , and I was being cheap)
I'm keeping the crash bars for now, easy enough to take off but I'm toying with the idea of mounting extra driving light on them (could be a bit mad max )
yeah I have been meaning to join ADV rider for years ,I just go there to read the ride reports and gleam information, Lots of boxer knowledge over there.
Decided to not fuztz with the airbox as it runs so well stock and everybody that removes them has some sort of issue, and frankly it's never bothered me how it looks.
