This, like most things in the world, could be fixed by executing no less than two thirds of the worlds population. Fireworks are not the problem, they cannot light themselves.
If they ban fireworks, then I'll do my damndest to ensure that motorcycles are either banned, or heavily legislated against (i.e. race tracks only or similar, $2000 a year rego, compulsory full face and leathers year round, 2 years on a 125 for a learner, that sort of thing). You can't make a futile effort to clean out one bunch of idiots without making everybody suffer equally, it's only fair.
Look – I’m pretty well over this. I really don’t care much either way but I think this is a bloody shame.
Lifes little pleasures get eroded all the time and the ‘you can’t do that’ brigade win every time. You know I’m sorry some peoples animals get spooked but you know I’ve had dogs and cats and it never a big deal to have them inside. Neither of the dogs were ever that stressed by it all. Yet the people that whine about it have no issue letting their fucking cats kill endless native birds or their dogs crap all over my lawn and rush at other people. Fuck it – live and let live. The problem is inconsiderate arses and you cannot legislate that out… Damned if I think you should even try.
You know – its fun letting off a few fireworks with the kids and its an opportunity to teach them respect for the neighbours and basic fire safety. Most kids don’t get to learn how to make up a safe campfire or anything these days…
Dry your eyes Paul.
There's plenty of fun you can have with your kids that doesn't involve creating a nuisance for the neighborhood.
Animal owners also need to take responsibility by ensuring that their animals have adequate shelter to mitigate the effects of the fireworks. We gave my dog some diazepam last night (lucky dog, I want some too!), and that really helped a lot as he gets very scared from the fireworks, but interestingly enough he doesn't really mind the sound of a 12ga shotgun.
Holy crap I should start signing a petition to ban KiwiBiker because I fear of it's compromising threat to intellect responsibility!
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
Odd... I'm not that old, and when I grew up they were a neighbourhood event.... from the school across the back fence that ran a Guy Fawkes evening, complete with bonfire and display, to the letting of them at BBQs with the neighbours and their families.
I'm sick of this lowest common denominator bullshit. Your logic is a good reason to get rid of motorcycles, booze, churches, and cyclists.
So what the fuck happened to taking some personal responsibility for your actions? I was always brought up to take responsibility for my own actions, and to man up and admit a fuck up if I make one, rather than blame everything on society allowing the sale of fireworks/alcohol etc.
