Well they haven't sold the "asset's" just some of the "asset shares" but I get your point.

Speeding is getting too much attention there are many other road traffic behaviours that need more attention and would be more productive!

Lowering the alcohol limit is only a small diversion ... they should be paying more attention to keeping "known repeat drink drivers" off the road.

Yep, pretty sure a reduction in speed from 110k to 104k will make all the difference in how injured someone is when they fall asleep and drive into a ditch, or a tourist strays onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into them head on.

This is utter BS. There is a 5% allowance for your speedo to be out (from the manufacturer) so they will be pinging a lot of people because of this crap to fill Johns pocket, I mean keep us safer.....

I feel like I'm chewing gravel.
The statistics are being used the way a drunken man uses a lamp post. For support not illumination. I'm repeating myself.
IIRC the second time this infraction limit was imposed, an Easter Weekend, Un Zud was under the effects of a tropical storm, everybody stayed home & the road toll was zero. The new strategy was praised to high heaven. IIRC again, the following Easter had quite a high road toll under the same strategy. It's a lottery. At the moment the general pubic are all "oh, watch your speed" but familiarity breeds contempt. The fact that the open road speed limit is ignored so often will ultimately apply to this lack of tolerance.
I applaud anything which makes our roads safer but feel ideas like this are a finger in the dike. Money needs to be invested in road users, not taken from them. Lack of awareness, ability & consideration are the main causes of accidents. Treating the white lines as something for other people not to cross must be right up there, too.
A 6 inch steel spike on the steering wheel would probably have a huge statistical effect as well.

We have invested a lot of time & money in training & practice, we will continue to do so but this road safety strategy makes me feel like a hostage to my speedo. I am not a habitual speeder, on occasion I do. Either a few k's over coz I ride a bike that likes to sit at 111 kmh or I'm riding down hill or I just want to stuff the bike through a couple of bends which are empty, clean & safe. So far, so good, still breathing.

For the next few months our local roads will be filled with hot & bothered drivers from elsewhere in NZ not giving a shit, just wanting to get out the bloody car & campervans driven by folks from overseas who keep forgetting which side of the road they are on or just drifting aimlessly while they gawp at the scenery. We have bits of road limited between 30 & 90kmh, lots of road works, each with there own wee speed limit, 15, 25, 30, 50 kmh.
It's hard enough avoiding steel, fearing the thought of over zealous policing, real or imagined, just makes it harder again.
I see a lot of gravel roads in my future.

Yeah, if your colour vision is spot on. Mine is shit. If I see one approaching me sideways I might have a chance, so I should be ok if they pull a u-turn in a stupid place. Heading towards me before I see the profile of the lights on top? Nah, I prefer them in white, like my coffee.

Ironically statistics gathered from NZ accident data would argue that white and silver are also safer, more noticeable colours. I believe yellow is consistently up there as well.

I saw some dark purple cop cars in Aus which must be wanting to not be seen as easily to actually catch people before they spot them and slow down. To be fair doing something like that or more mufti cars would make more sense in the name of 'safety' and all that jazz.

Worst case I'm wrong and the red cars stand out so much that the car thieves they like to ignore start collecting them
