Other places in the world mite pay more for fuel but then their pay is generally alot more as well. Shit $1.47 is bloody bad enough if it gets much higher there will be no more weekend riding for me. I can barely afford it as it is. Poor student and all.

It's quite interesting really as Kiwi's seem quite placid about the whole issue, sure we complain (me included) but that's as far it goes.
My parents in the Philippines were saying that they tried to put up the petrol prices there and everyone striked/protested etc and accordly they were promptly lowered again. Maybe this is more what we should do? I.e more visual, get some media coverage etc.

thing is, as good as it sounds on paper, it isn't really going to work.
    The easiest way for this to fail (amongst many), is that;

    a) BP start dropping in sales. So they pump their prices up to compensate. Other companies see this, 'If BP can do it, so can we..', so prices go up.

    b) other brands are shopped, which leaves them running low. They have to start rationing gas in areas, or buy off others, such as BP..

    c) the gas stations see a protest going on, and BP being avoided. So they hike their price up to take advantage..

And that's just before my brain starts thinking, and they will do it. why? cos they have us by the short n curlies, and they know it. I hate it so much. Fucks me off beyond reason, so I try not to think about it too much, and hope I get a payrise to compensate the fuel rise. Probably won't, but hey..

The only way I can think of anything happening and being effective, is to copy what happened in the UK in 2000, where a few guys just parked their tractors in front of the oil company gates, and then everyone went mad for a few weeks, then petrol dropped in price for a while.. If people want to make a dent, you have to make a bloody big noise. These fatcats don't hear anything below a million people in a place like NZ. It took 30 million for the UK to run it dry in a few days.. Some one has to have the balls to do something more drastic, than a bunch of people avoiding a company. Plus there's not enough people to make the slightest bit of noise by avoiding BP. You'd need all of Auckland to avoid it to start with, and how would you do that? banners by their stations? on the motorway? in the newspaper?

no. we need a cunning plan. so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel..

Petrol dollars, who gets your cash

the thing is, we get pissed off about our fuel prices soaring and the good old government don't help with their levies and GST, but thats life. Anyway as i was saying, the price of gas is going up in every country, not just NZ and they know that even if its double what it is now, people will still pay it as its a consumer product (to state the obvious)

anyway, heres where your hard earned green goes.

out of $20 in your tank

$9.47 is tax, that is GST, Petroleum Excise, National Land Transport Managment Fund, Petrol Fuels monitoring levy, ACC levy and Local authority tax............. or to sum up, GOVT FUCKING US.........

$8.27 is International Oil Producers Marging

$1 is the Oil Company Margin

$0.69 is the Service station margin

$0.57 is international freight and insurance...... ???? (insurance for gas???)

thuis data from this year but when fuel was $1.29 for 91 octane and taken from the MTA site.........
    Cibby play thing

There was a hurricane in the US yesterday - today fuel goes up again...like,don't you have to buy a product at the increased price to pass it on - that fuel has been in the tanks all week.....Diesel now costs what 91 did just a few months ago.
