    The easiest way for this to fail (amongst many), is that;

    a) BP start dropping in sales. So they pump their prices up to compensate. Other companies see this, 'If BP can do it, so can we..', so prices go up.

    b) other brands are shopped, which leaves them running low. They have to start rationing gas in areas, or buy off others, such as BP..

    c) the gas stations see a protest going on, and BP being avoided. So they hike their price up to take advantage..

And that's just before my brain starts thinking, and they will do it. why? cos they have us by the short n curlies, and they know it. I hate it so much. Fucks me off beyond reason, so I try not to think about it too much, and hope I get a payrise to compensate the fuel rise. Probably won't, but hey..

The only way I can think of anything happening and being effective, is to copy what happened in the UK in 2000, where a few guys just parked their tractors in front of the oil company gates, and then everyone went mad for a few weeks, then petrol dropped in price for a while.. If people want to make a dent, you have to make a bloody big noise. These fatcats don't hear anything below a million people in a place like NZ. It took 30 million for the UK to run it dry in a few days.. Some one has to have the balls to do something more drastic, than a bunch of people avoiding a company. Plus there's not enough people to make the slightest bit of noise by avoiding BP. You'd need all of Auckland to avoid it to start with, and how would you do that? banners by their stations? on the motorway? in the newspaper?

no. we need a cunning plan. so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel..
1/ Price rises have never been the answer to falling sales.
2/ All oil companies buy from the same source. (Except Gull)
3/ I doubt that any of the other companies would risk being left on a limb. Don't underestimate the power of schadenfraude.

Local CEO's are still answerable for their bottom line to their parent companies, who generally do not accept excuses.

Prices up again today. I questioned this at the attendant. He merely said fill up now as they are going up again on Friday. Now they obviously have planned for this increase and will no doubt look for something else to blame the price hike on. We are being plundered by the oil companies. How do we react to this. Fuckers.

It's got to the stage where the oil companies are taking the piss. They think we're inured to rises so they just keep piling them on plus some extra for themselves.
Sure, crude briefly reached $US70 a barrel, but it's back to $US66.53 this morning.
When are Kiwis going to cry enough?

Kiwis cant cry 'enough' all they like but where else are we going to get our fuel from. Im sure the govt isnt going to interveen. Although a preelection stand by a party may garner more votes...

Just got an e-mail from friends in Arizona. Gas prices are predicted to rise to US$4 a gallon over there as a result of the hurricane. No good blaming politicians or BP. Looks like we're stuck with it.

k, well I still don't think stuff like this works well, but it'd be interesting to see if there were any effects on a big enough scale. Just sent this, along with probably a squillion other peeps..

It has been calculated that if everyone in New Zealand did not purchase
a drop of petrol for one day at all the same time the oil companies
could possibly choke on their stockpiles.

At the same time it would hit the entire industry with a net loss at the
current prices of $1.50 per litre (30 litres for a full tank) $45.00 x a
conservative estimate of 2,000,000 vehicles in NZ that would equate to
$90 million dollar loss (one day) to the oil companies and hit their
    profit margins.

*Therefore September 5th has been informally declared "Stick it up their
    butts day".*

*Motorists of New Zealand should not buy a single drop for that day!*

The only way this can be done if your forward this e-mail to as many
people as you can to get the word out.

Waiting on this Government to step in and control prices is not going to
happen and there is an Election coming so why not throw them into a
    panic.

BOTH PARTIES HAVE REFUSED TO REMOVE THE EXTRA 0.05 CENT SURCHARGE ON
PETROL INTRODUCED ON 1st APRIL 2005.

Remember one thing about raising gas prices:

    * Airlines are forced to raise their prices
    * Trucking companies forced to raise their prices
    * These prices affect the cost of shipping
    * Flow on effect that your GROCERY BILL goes up
    * Flow on effect on clothing, building, medical supplies!
    * It effects all of us in every area while companies can write off
    these expenses, consumers cannot.

    Who pays in the end?

    WE DO - The consumer!

We can make a difference if they don't get the message after one day we
will do it again and again.

Enough of these ridiculous excuses that the oil companies use to justify
their increases everything from President Bush missing a golf stroke on
the 9th hole to Aunt Fanny's artificial leg falling off.

If you are sick of this manipulation vote with your car and do not buy a
drop. Spread the word and mark the date on your calendars.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU CAN!!!!

I wonder if we can get away with it
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
