The XJ600 is chain drive. The XJ900 is shaft drive. The XV is a V engine and shaft too I think (and wont fit)

I'll bet the XJ can smoke any 250cc - It's essentially the same as my old YX600 Radian and that bike's especially got very good torque at the low end of the rpm. Bloody wonderful air-cooled bulletproof "Me so horny, me love you long time" engines they are too...

OP - Pics of the bike please....

Take no notice of the troll

I had a lot of fun putting a lot of k's on my old XJ600, great old bikes and suprisingly capable for their age..

Not LAMs approved though, at 72hp and 190kg dry.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

Had an XJ650 special, my first 4T after the H1a.... bloody great motor, only 'weakness?' is the cam chain from memory... (unless the oil/filter is done religiously). Very early (non Yics) had a bit of a flat spot around 5k-7k, think they did a slightly larger main jet to rectify it. Yics model had no problem, only servicing isssue I could foresee is if your local shop still has the 'YICS' tool for carb balancing.

650/750 top end was a simple swapover as well..... Early 900's were actually 850, later bored out a little to reach 900cc.
Did a lot of miles on the XJ, loved the 'whistle' they made, went pretty good for the 'day' too.
