Stand very close to chain when in 'up' position on ER6

I have a 2007 ER6n. The side-stand has always done this 'two-stage' kind of thing where you put it down, and then when you turn the handle-bars to lock the stand kind of 'relaxes' and slides along the ground a bit. Fine - it's done that ever since we bought it.

However, I noticed just the other day that I think it now goes lower than it used to i.e. the stand 'slides' more. Also, when the stand is up, it's only about 5 mm from the chain, which is pretty darn close. I'm guessing it shouldn't be this close... anyone else come across this issue?

I *think* the chain tension is still alright - looks the same as when it last went to the shop.

Have you checked the tightness of the chain? It does need constant adjustment, as it stretches through it's life.

Side stands are quite overrated. I wouldn't worry about this.

Worth stopping by shop and asking their opinion, shouldn't cost anything.

Better to be safe than sorry.

I think you need to look at the side stand and where it fits to the bike - may be starting to come loose and need tightening up. Do as Big Al suggests - pop into a bike shop

I *think* the chain tension is still alright - looks the same as when it last went to the shop.

Could possibly be your shock/suspension given that the side-stand slides out more but is closer to your chain??

I noticed that my sidestand was coming loose last week. It mounts with two bolts with 17mm heads. I'd noticed that the gear position indicator was being a bit squirrelly and went looking for why (thought it might have been corrosion in the electrical connector. Imagine my surprise when I could wobble the stand on its mounting bracket....
