Heya guys...
As the title mentions, I have started with a pretty interesting little project.
The inspiration came from a custom GSXR1000 which was designed for the swiss market titled the GSXR1000 Virus. Yes you can buy them new, but don't count on it being affordable once you add all the importing costs... I have always had a soft spot for the Triumph Speed triple, but this is just even meaner in styling and not too mention a 180Hp powerplant lurking in that body !
As my luck turned out, I found a GSXR1000 L0 which had some cosmetic damage done to it, but luckily there was no chassis damage... clocks, levers, headlight was perfect, no scratches on engine, not even bent levers and handlebars.
The one challenge you have with building a streetfighter type of bike, is if you take shortcuts and add some "tacky" cheap components, it turns very quickly into a scruffy, half assed looking bike.
This is not the route I am planning on taking her. This has to be done right, and perfect.
This was my canvas I had to start working with...
So... up to date, I have managed to buy a TON of stuff online, and I wasn't prepared to buy el-cheapo plastics from chinese companies not lining up.
I have a complete rear end section OEM plastics coming in, and also managed to get my pipe fitted. Power commander V with the correct map loaded in, and boy does she sound fine with that pipe ! Some carbon panels added and the exact exhaust...
Currently she is looking like this :
The bottom lower belly pan I have... that is nothing more than the OEM one which they did some fancy polishing around the edges and blended them together in the front middle front section with some plastic welding or linking the parts together.
The top triple clamp and handlebar risers I was expecting to be a sore point, but fortunately ran into this place : http://www.topyokes.com/conversion/325
They have a complete set including top triple clamp, handlebar risers, extended clutch cable, extended front braided hoses, Renthal bars available which makes the front-end a LOT easier to sort out.
The headlight and fairing bits around the headlight I need is nothing more than OEM GSR750 stuff... I found a German company selling the bits I need to complete the front headlight area.
The part I need some advice and help on... is the mid section fairing on the first image. I tried mailing Suzuki Switzerland, but when they heard I was from NZ, they weren't willing to sell me the plastics needed. Guess they want to keep it exclusively to their market. This leaves me with a fiberglass sculpting job I need done. Who can you guys recommend in NZ that would be willing to do a "perfectionist" job and really take the time and effort to make the two side fairing bits covering the mid section, but to a real high quality and standard. Most likely also sculp and cut the bottom belly pan section... I have the original ones that were on the bike when it ate some gravel. Only the mid sections broke, but it will requires some TLC and a spray job.
The end result would be great if I can get it to a point, where If I decide to go do a trackday, then I can slap some auctmart ABS fairings on, and with a few hours work migrate her back into a superbike.
Any case... hopefully someone here on the forums can give me some really good direction and advice on "preferred" quality custom builders.
cheers !![]()
