I read this book over the course if a week while on holiday in Rarotonga recently. It is one of the best books I have read for a long time and not just because it is related to motorbikes. I reckon many people with no interest at all in biking would really enjoy this book. It is a true biography and deals with his whole life, not just the time spent on his bike. The style in which it is written makes it more like a story than a fact filled autobiography. The author spends quite a bit of time on what may appear to be irrelevant anecdotes but they all go to draw the picture of the man and many are laugh out loud entertaining. Best of all, there are no boring bits!
The book demonstrates just how stunning his achievements were of course but the description of how he went about cobbling together bits of bikes and fabricating other bits himself to make a ridiculously fast old bike just leaves me in awe of the man.
Read this book if you get the chance.
