Aspie much? I watched it last night and have thought a great deal about the subject.

The advantages of not paying rates and taxes etc is undermined that improvements made by you become harder to sell or recoup if ever one decides to sell up and move on.

Travel too overseas would be hard.

Similar options could be living on a boat. I met a 75yr old Scotsman with a border collie living on a raft in Westmere near $2m homes. Made from 20liter drums bound together with ply over the top, then shanty rooms and a big tarp on top. Water only ever got 30cm deep at highest tides.

I would probably opt for Raro or Tahiti instead. Buy a $100k house and relax forever on fish, bananas mangos coconuts and a vege garden. Try for a young wife maybe too

But yeah I identify with the theme of leaving society and living a simple life unburdened by a contract with a company only interested in profit. Maybe if the ruling was done in a more ethical manner, but then thats aspies for you

Waka yeah! When I moved up to Picton I thought I would be living on a boat for sure but no bastard rents them out (only the expensive week away type deals) and I don't want to 'invest' in a floating money pit myself One day.

That raft idea is interesting though. Pretty sure with a longer beard and throwing out all but one shoe I could pull that off.

Anyone follow the dude that built a stilt shanty in Nelson the other month? You could probably choose a less conspicuous spot but fair play to people like that I reckon.
Master builder or not, there was a time when that wouldn't have been a problem and he would have been left alone to do his own thing.

gypsies have been doing it for years, no lands, crops or many domestic animals to care for, no birth records.... just a horse and cart for a whole family

individuals will be left alone, but groups like Waco will come under a lot of pressure

gypsies are getting a ton of bad press in Europe at the moment....

They've had bad press for years and a lot of it is brought on themselves. I saw two fighting in the middle of the street with chains on my first trip to Ireland. Was epic and tragic at the same time.

I've got a doco on 'the list of things to watch' about tinkers and how they are struggling to adapt to the changes around them/changes people are trying to force upon them (in Ireland). Will let you know if it is worth a watch? (it is just a low budget job).
