Hello, how strong are these cores compared to say, sodium silicate bonded or furan resin ?

Did you struggle with core breakdown post casting ?

    Thank you

Seeing as this project is for my bucket and it involves casting, I thought it's be worth sharing. I'm casting the chassis components for my latest build from CC601 aluminium, this includes the frame plates and the headstock which is a large hollow component. I may also cast the triple clamps at a later date.
I have 3D printed the headstock pattern from PLA and smoothed the layer lines with bog, these have been doweled and glued to an MDF matchplate. I have also made core boxes from layers of laminated 19mm MDF, the sodium silicate bonded cores came out of the boxes today (the boxes required a lot of sanding to get the longer sections to release reliably) and hopefully I can cast these parts next week.

hello, they are strong enough to allow 4-5mm thick paths, but i can't give you a comparison with other bonds.
for sure the foundry never had any issue in removing the cores post casting, especially when they make the heat treatment every residual goes away
