    Southern Rider Escapade 2013

    The Southern Rider web-site is having problems at the moment, but be assured that the very popular Escapade Ride is still being organised. This year is the fifth SR Escapade, and looks to be another enjoyable ride, with a few surprises thrown in.

    Entry forms can be downloaded from here:

    http://www.myrides.co.nz/content.asp...CA6EDFC82F59C4

    The Escapade is a bike road rally with a slight difference. You are given a route to follow, and along this route you must answer questions that are supplied as part of the direction sheets. The route is usually around 1,000km long, so can be comfortably completed in a two-day weekend. After completion you return the question sheet with your answers, and your badge is sent out to you after the close off date for completing the Escapade.

    The route is invariably a loop configuration, which means you can start and finish the loop from any point on the route. This year the official start and finish point is in Oamaru.

    You have a three month period from 1 September till 30th November to complete the Escapade. You can do it in your own time, and do it either by yourself or with a group. You can do it in one day or a couple of days, or expand it into a holiday away. You can do it in any order you like as long as you answer the questions along the way. You can start the loop anywhere and finish anywhere.

    The important things are;

    - You must get as many of the answers as you can. (Don't be too worried about getting one wrong or missing one);
    - You must have as much fun as possible. For most, it is an awesome adventure.

    Entries are now open - get in quick.

    There's a bunch of riders from Christchurch who are entered as usual (speaking of which I must get my entry away), no doubt there will be someone you can team up with, if I catch up with any of them I'll point them in the direction of this thread.

    If the timing works I don't mind company, as long as people don't mind waiting for me to catch up, and have a beer waiting for me.

    I'm looking at doing this as well. I'd be trying to do it over a couple of days, probably a Friday and Saturday.

    If those days would suit you, let me know.

    Done and dusted. Some bleary eyed and tired bods headed South yesterday with an economical tail wind. One of us not having such an economical ride getting rooted by a pig on the pig route, but that's another story. Escapade was a doodle and enjoyed the ride in good company answering all the questions right or wrong. Two of us started with a first leg from Otama to Oamaru where we got "Steampunked" , and checked out Andy's new Captain America helmet at Colin Clyne MC. Next day was on to Omarama with an overnight excursion to the Mt Cook Rally if you could call it that. Then a third day run back with 5 others joining back to Omarama and onto OhmygodwemadeithomeInvercargill .
    All up a bloody good ride. Can't wait for next years

    Great Ride

    Completed this last week, had a great ride, had a little rain through the gorge and staircase but didn't deter from the ride or the scenery. Well done and definitely well worth doing! Certainly on for next year

    Got home tonight after 1744 miles (2807ks) this being our 3rd now.....

    Had a great weekend after arriving in the south island on Friday morning and heading to Oamaru for the night,
    We started our escapade on the Saturday and headed to Queenstown where we got a little rain once over the Lindas and into Queenstown..

    Sunday saw the arrival of snow and it was time to get out of town once we had got past the Remarkables ski area turn off we had left the snow behind,had a superb day though those back country roads had smiles all round and extra fuel stop was needed between Balclutha and Alex

    Monday we finished and the reality had sunk in it was time to start heading north again and finally home..

    Great ride and huge thanks too those involved in sorting this event..its something we have itched into our calender,already looking forward to next years event....

    After some rain, some wind, some sun and some awesome roads that would have been much more fun without all of the above, mine is on it's way back.
