    True.

They should be treated as both as and when the situations requires. The difference is, our culture allows kids to be and do many more things that the adult world is prepared for, let alone prepared to allow. But as you said above, that's not a new thing... tis a shame that we haven't learned that prohibiting what kids wanna do isn't the answer.

Except when it's time for them to face up to the consequences of their actions as adults, we start treating them like kids.

It might even work, for a year or two...
Yeah ... last time we tried that the cops mounted Operation 8 - and armed police stormed into Ruatoki and Te Urewera

Interesting that around that time, the youtube video of an interview with Tame was taken down, in which he claimed to have contact with, and was receiving material support from, Basque separatists. He was sitting in a back yard, dressed head to toe in camo. (Camo toe?)

The videos on Bebo of the thugs with the bandanas on their faces chanting something like "You better stay away from Te Urewera" to a hiphop beat seemed to go undergound pretty quick too.

If that was your idea of raising kids then it's probably a good thing that they did.

I've found it difficult to take him seriously for years. What I'm saying is that it adds to the picture painted from outside of what was going on in the bush. Personally I think he was/is living some Walter Mitty fantasy of armed struggle against the oppressor, and the Op 8 top brass were living a Walter Mitty world of suppressing an armed insurgency. Unfortunately both sides dragged a number of innocent people into their little game.

I said, and I think he said Basque separatists, not the ETA as such. It was a spanish interview and I think he was big-noting for the international press. It was prior to their 2011 announcement to end armed struggle.

No no you are quite save, John said the GCSB isn't used against New Zealand citizens, however it might be safer if you don't leave the country and especially not via any of the other countries within the five eyes, of course there is also the risk of kidnap

If GCSB is not used against NZers , why did DonKey ram through that legislation last year which allows just that?

you miss understand, according to John, the GCSB itself will not be used on NZ in and of itself, but rather it can be used to assist other agencies in their actions towards NZ, NB: not against NZers. This is what dear John's legislation was about, the efficient use of resources against for Kiwis. Guess this allows the GCSB to tap into other agencies tax dollars thus making it cheaper to run for the CIA.

This, btw is unadulterated drivel. The time to allow kids to do whatever they want is when they're ready and willing to take responsibility for it.

The fact that there's a metric fuckload of 30 year old kids around that not only have absolutely no interest in the consequences of their behaviour but no idea of any link between the two is ample proof that letting the wee dears do whatever they want before they're ready isn't a very good idea if you hope to make productive, responsible adults.

Good mates are the ones that come around and plumb your house with beer.
Why the fuck are they still allowed to portray alcohol as something good in our society?

It's only unadulterated drivel if you believe that I meant that kids should be allowed to do whatever they want period. Fortunately, that's not what I meant at all. Kids need to be allowed to try to do whatever they want, else they ain't never gonna learn nuffink. Treating them as adults/equals when they are acting as such does not mean that they should be treated as a kidult.

There always have been and always will be people who don't give a fuck. You ain't gonna change that, not even with squillions of $. In fact, I'd say that those "adults" have had parents who haven't treated them as they deem fit, not as the "adult" deems fit. I've known quite a few of them thar types and plenty of them turned out to be cunts. these days it may well be a different story. "Because I said so and because I know better" is no way to treat a dog, 14+ year old.
