    Hollywoods in Soccer

I see that Sepp Blatter wants to introduce penaltys for taking a dive in Soccer.

I am suprised that something like a time out penalty hasn't been put in place before, or is there already something in the rules that reff's can impose?

    Short answer, Nope.
    Not a bad idea though.

Slightly off topic but they should do the same for all the grunters in tennis, that's 'Hollywood' as well IMHO.

Yep. Don't know much about what happens nowdays as I haven't refereed for many years although I did qualify as a ref back in the day. Yellow card for 'Unsportsmanlike conduct' was the sanction although it's really only in the last 10 years or so you see it being used.

That's pretty much the highest reason why I refuse to watch soccer. People are encouraged to cheat when there is no punishment for it. I'd rather not watch a game that can be changed by cheating. I've watched about 3 or 4 full games on tv. Every time someone took a bullshit dive at least once. After every game I watch, I vow to never watch it again.

TV money has ruined the game. Blatter won't do anything, he has been at the helm of FIFA for so long and only notices it now? Must be wanting some brownie points before the golden handshake. I blame him, Sky TV and everyone who supports Manchester United for the decline in football.

    And Derby.

Most sports ban participants for cheating, so it's a lot less prevalent. Every soccer game it's who cheats the best, not who plays the best.

Have you watched a game of rugby lately (loose forwards / tight 5 in particular), in my opinion I would use those same words to describe rugby - especially scrums and the break down.
Netball - supposed to be non contact
Basketball - fouls (although I guess that could be considered legitimate cheating)
Ice Hockey - some of the checks they get away with
NFL - pass interference etc are all border line.

Most sports the line between cheating and good play is what the ref sees or decides is cheating.
Football is trying to catch up with the yellow card for simulation - but it will need to filter UP from the lower grades I suspect.
Too much money involved to do it top down.

I like football - hate diving, but not enough to no longer watch the game.

No chance of that happening when the kids watch their heros on TV and copy them on the pitch. There needs to be stronger sanctions for back-chatting the ref and I think a League-style "on report" option available to the officials to analyse stuff and impose sanctions after the match.

For years I thought there must have been a mrkma in the crowd of every soccer match with a high powered rile tking out plays as they approached to box near the goal.
Ive even seen (probably spoof) videos of training sessions mimiking life threatening injuries and hw to react.

I even seen a ball boy fake injury (prob shot by the same sniper in the crowd) when challenged to hand back a ball.

Cant stand watching it, bunch of premadonas.

It's a shame that. It is actually a great game when played without the diving. And not meaning to defend them, but when you are running full tilt it sometimes doesn't take much of a tap to send you arse over kite. However that doesn't excuse the rolling and thrashing about in what appears to be terrible pain afterwards. Or the crashing to the ground in the penalty box when the defender was about half a metre away!
It really does ruin the game - even for fans!

    I agree.

And a Mandatory stretcher off and 10 minutes on the side line, would cull the Hollywood's in a heartbeat
