So, just to restate the original idea for this thread...here's Bosslady's post again:
Nerrrd and I are planning a wee road trip that will start on Thursday 6th February (Waitangi Day) in Auckland and end in Auckland on Sunday 9th February. You know how the saying goes, the more the merrier! So, if anyone is interested in riding some or all of it, or just whatever really, let us know! Note however that the roads leading into and out of Lake Waikaremoana (Days 2 & 3) are gravel. We don't have a heap of experience in gravel so we'll be taking it slow, but please don't come on this part of the trip if you're already sh#*ting bricks at the mere thought of it! We'll be taking it relatively easy and neither of us are exactly speed demons so while there won't be too much pressure you should be good enough to keep up with us snails going the speed limit etc.
We're planning on camping for the first 2 nights and perhaps renting a cabin for the third. We've put together a rough itinerary so far (see below) though there's still a bit to be confirmed. The time guidelines are exactly that, guidelines, so don't take them as gospel etc. Have posted a map from google below, hopefully it's showing up!

Obviously this ride is too much for those experienced riders :P
It seems trouble follows even if I'm not around, lol. I am sure skippa means well although I don't think it was a particularly fair or helpful comment especially when drudging up posts from months ago, totally uneccessary. And anyway how am I meant to get experience by not going out and doing things! Doesn't really make sense does it. But how about we just get back on track, this isn't about my experience or lack thereof :-)
Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.
First things first, congrats to the new bike Rodney. Are you happy with it so far? Does it handle much different to your beamer?
Love the idea of touring with you guys, but haven't done any gravel on the Spada yet, so probably not. if I still had the GN I wouldn't worry as much, lol. Maybe I'll meet up with you somewhere for a bit.

Yeah really happy, where the f650 plodded along this one's more like an eager puppy that wants to play all the time. Feels lighter even though it's not by much, suspension feels a bit harder but the seat is much more comfy, actually sitting more upright on this but my legs do feel slightly more cramped. Engine is silky smooth by comparison, gears click more often than they clunk. Tyres are 95 % road / 5% off road but so far haven't noticed any lack of grip on the road and the whole set up felt really good on the gravel I did yesterday (shame about the rider)...I could go on.

I might be able to join you for the non-gravel bits.

Did a trip down that statehighway a couple of weeks back when going from Waitomo to Taupo. Stoped at every shithole imaginable because I had 9 chaps getting on the beers in the back of the van. Te Kuiti has a good liquor store. I would stop at the caves on the way down if I was you, good way to burn off a couple of hours going black water rafting.
Theres alot of roadworks on Statehighway 30 at the moment and most of the guys working the stop go signs are from the local prison out on work experience, so stop nad have a yarn to them. Dont try and give them a codys like I did, supervisors be watching. Probably add another 30 mins just to get through. It is a nice peice of road.
Muru-spartans are a different breed. Nice straight through there where off the clock speeds are asking to be reached
Sounds like a cool adventure to me, have fun. Thats the sort of trip that will give you heaps of different experiences, both on and off the bike.![]()

Damn was hoping to meet up, but just checked the roster and i am on call that week. I don't think work would take kindly to me not being able to hear my cellphone. Though our travel policy states that mobile phones should be switched off while travelling...
