buy new fairing? or use fiberglass?

my old man has a 88 fj1200 that needs fairing repairs [same with my ninja] would it be wiser to........get new fairing bits or make some...how much does fibreglass cost? and is there any legal guidelines to ingore, i mean follow, any help would be appreciated.... :spudflip:
