You can get one off a dealer with similar or less kms for the same - and probably haggle the dealer as well given they will want it off the floor.

I might advertise my Ducati at more than I paid for it - heck they don't make my model anymore so it must be exotically collectible now maybe I should recover the seat in brown leather first.

Nah, be fashion forward. Baby Blue is the new Brown. You read it here first.

If it takes off, how do I collect my royalties?

Yeah because the all got commuted to a dreary death and noone thought to save one. Except him. And now he wants. . . well twice what it's worth surely.

I bought a GSX400S in 1981 (the fruity one with 4 valve heads and TSCC) for $3000.

you seem to be out of touch with things These were very popular in their day, like army indians and bsa bantams, people want two types of toys later in life in terms of bikes, the one they always dreamed about or the one that served them well and they maybe have unfinished business on.
also being a lightweight it's should be a popular choice with old fellas who would struggle with a big bike. apart from the pipes it's original paint and a S model with fairing so ticks a lot of boxes too for a lot, i think the price is about what it's worth

Those 2 examples you quoted were distinctly unpopular for many years. Try selling a Morrie Grinder or an Austin Land crab in the 80s.

They are only popular again due to age. I don't doubt that the GS will be as desirable in say 30 years but for now I don't fancy his chances. It's not a DT175 or an X7. Game changers have more desirability for the sad old men reliving their youth the way they wanted to (we meet on Thursdays). You know where I live, stake out my letterbox and you'll see what magazines I subscribe to. But please don't pinch em, I've lost a few in the post. I've never seen a GS450 restore.

Buy those last remaining GPz 305s and XZ400/550s now but return on investment will be circa 2047 when we can't get petrol anyway so reliability will be a mute point.

It was the first bike I saw with a dash mounted gear indicator, these things impressed Honda SL 125 owners. Does Thursday nights include Steinlager Blue?
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

    I had a SL125 - but even then - nothing about a GS450 impressed me

To my shame. Didn't look right, but thought if it were mute it was silent and in between bites of filled bready product it seemed for a short while to make sense.

My GS550 had a gear indicator. I too was impressed.
    And certainly not!

My 2015 bike does not have a gear indicator

A air temp reading though - because on a motorcycle you can't wind down the window to check the outside temperature.

An oddball orphan with a billion kms on its last oversize, good luck finding new parts..https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/mot...1386719440.htm

And you'd get a mid 2000s GasGas250 that would annihilate it for 2k less. Maybe 3k.

    What are people thinking?
