The 400 is like riding a fourstroke. Probably suited the market at the time as everything was being softened - see H1 D/E - but when I last rode one I was disappointed.
Aren't they the equivalent of a 54 Matchless nowdays ? Lol Greg ! Like an MGB is a twin carb Morris Oxford ?

I mean great in their day (and I did a lot on them). But they'd be pretty average nowdays surely?

You'd never go hungry with Nigella Gaz.

The 350 LC still stands up as exciting IMO. I don't ride a lot of big moderns but what I have ridden feels like big electric motors - no lump in the middle of the power curve, LOL. They may be very fast but the power delivery has been made linear.

Saw the MGB being given away recently by radio - looked at it and thought, fuck no, been there had one of those, never again....

I had an LC as well and actually preferred it to the RZ from as much as I remember of 1982 ? lol.

Every ride on the current steed,I arrive home with a big grin.
Its a rocket ship and way better than I am .

A lot of people wobble on about the LC being more exciting than the RZ due to the pv filling in the curve. Course you can just remove the ypvs fuse just after a start up clean cycle where it is in up position for easy kicking. Result, hi exhaust port LC with better porting.

But a pillion ride as a youngster on a 400G cemented a love of bikes. And in particular 2 strokes. Only just kicked back in wanting one. Strangely ive never ridden one. Am prepared that it wont blow my socks off.
By not attracted to the 350 are you means the looks? i can understand that.
Because i like the Coffin tank looks far better as well. but i have a late model 250 chassis for the cosmetics not that i intend to use much of it or will ever likely finish it.
Not a fan of the RDLC looks either, to tell the truth. The pommy Norton designer of the cosmetics missed the boat there.
It should have taken advantage of the TZ style.

I like the euro style of the 400G but concede the earlier ones are better looking.

Yeah they look cool, but the RZ is 2 generations newer. I had the later F2 RZ back in the day which handled significantly better. My current one is mounted in a suzuki but there you go.

You never see these old things for sale nowdays ?
For purely sentimental reasons I'd like to have another.

no surprised, the clutch was on the end of the crankshaft and the oil pump driven off the gearbox, a minute sitting revving at an intersection in gear would seize it nicely...

On an Italian bike that would have been called "character".

No I didn't mean what HDC posted. I meant the 400 "Daytona" - White with red speedblocks. Can't source a pic but you know which I mean.
