I'm not a mechanic so am not completely sure what's involved here but it looks a lot. Basically not much past the box of bits stage. $12,000 worth of bits?

Yeah it's a funny one. There was a mania in Britain for classic bikes to restore about a decade ago, serious tulip market type stuff, and it would've sold in five minutes flat during that craze. Obviously here and now is different but 50 people are watching... a lot of cashed up people are about to retire and will be looking for a twilight years project or two, he might actually get the money.

Let some one else do the work.
He should bundle the two up for that sort of cash.
This one sold yesterday for $10800 and if I did not already have one would have been keen.

    Needs Vinning, seat and wiring.

Crappy photos and poor auction timing do not get you a good price, always end in an evening when punters have had a few.

DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

That looks similar to the first bike I ever rode: a sprung hub Speed Twin. Even such a dose of nostalgia couldn't enduce me to own one of those now.

When I did own classics a wise man mentioned once that you either need to be a good mechanic or independently wealthy. I'm neither.

Hey, world's my oyster and something has to happen, its time ! Gunna do some shops over with my wallet,we'll see.
    Thanks for comments .
look at the transfer car website, they often have bikes needing relocating from chch to auckland, grab a flight down, ride it for two days and then you'll have the best test ride in your life. then place your order, or grab one from a dealer in auckland and ride home

Yep - It's been on the market for a little while now. It always amazes me how much some folk assume their second hand Harleys are worth...

    Islands eh?

I've always wanted to be a despotic ruler of some little kingdom. I'Il lure them with some phoney story, "Rich American wishes people to go live with him for free on isolated island/s. "

They will be groomed like a cult. Who knows what debauchery I will insist upon for my entertainment?

Then if I bore of it, I'll just make them go to war with each other.

An interesting way into the adventure bike market, lots of cargo room for life's necessaries like the tent and so on, inherently stable on gravel roads, renowned ability to handle mud, two-up easy and three-up possible without problems, guaranteed to attract attention wherever you go... hang on how much??
