A tragic tale indeed. How do you do that to a modern bike?

    Oil change?
The 625/640/690 engine is a bit tricky to do oil changes on.
If you don't bleed the system properly, they can go all explody like that.
Over the years, I have seen at least two 640 Enduros in that condition.

Late model Ford Rangers and BT50's suffer from similar. Our cousins husband paid $18k to replace the motor in his very new BT50 after he got his apprentice to do an oil change, and neither of them knew about the time limit for having the oil out of the sump before the non self priming oil pump drains out. Then, neither of them noticed the oil pressure light staying on. No warranty as they did it themselves. He is not the only one by far to have done this.

I just saw an article on this and the recommended time is ten minutes, although the article suggested a precautionary visit to the lavatory prior to starting so as not to exceed five minutes.

It'd pay to have the oil ready to go as soon as you put the sump plug back. Not in the store, right by the job. And make sure your phone was turned off.

What the advantages of such oil pumps are I have no idea, but the disadvantage seems huge.

It is fucking crazy! You can buy an aftermarket pump that self primes, if you can be arsed putting it in. Also if you need to you can fill the new oil filter with oil and then if the pressure does not come up, pull the filter and refill, repeat as necessary until it does pump up. What a crazy setup!

I hate Ford Rangers. They are the Volvos of 2020.

Yeah well, just a ute like all the rest. I did my due dilligence with all the other brands and it turns out there is a good reason it is nz's no1 selling ute. Plus in my case, I had a very helpful salesman which was the polar opposite of Toyota, across the road.

I have noticed that most owners are aggressive pricks. It's more than 'a trend'. Of course one doesnt notice the contentious drivers that may own them I guess.

It's the jacked up ones with the snorkels and the ludicorusly wide tyres that you need to watch out for!
